I've searched all over the place and have not yet found an answer. Is the SR20DET electronically governed at all? I've read that there is a 7800 RPM rev limiter, but what about a speed governor? I was in pursuit of a Type R Integra today and the car kind of coughed like the old KA24DE did when I would hit the ~115mph cut. I dunno how fast I was going at the time, but the speedo was definitely pegged. I think I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 6000 RPM (my eyes were on the road, not the dash).

I certainly hope there's some kind of cut, because otherwise I'm worried that I just ****ed up my brand new engine. =( It's only running 7psi, but it's hot as hell out today and I'm still running the stock fuel pump which is supposed to be good only up to about 8psi, right?

The ECU has a speed cut at 115 or 118, i've heard both. And mine cut out on me at like 119 indicated when I used to have my stock ECU.

Iv'e done right at 150 racing a 3000 vr4(I beat him) and my friends mustang gt following right behind me. Ecu programmed for 7700. IIRC I was around 6000 rpm. I had room but I wouldn't take it past that without perfect tuning and some head work done. Since thenI dont think Iv'e gone over 120. Thats when I was still testing my car to see what she would do. Since then I dont really race on the streets. This of course was a highway that wasnt really high. No traffic either.

You don't hit the speed cut:pface

Seriously though, the things that govern your speed now is HP and drag. The more HP you have the better you can overcome drag...hence the faster you can go:ylsuper

So to sum up what has been said for my own understanding, the stock SR20DET won't go much past 115mph without an ECU retune?

My SR has no speed cut that I know of and no ecu tuning that I know of. All transmission connectors are plugged in. My car does 125-130 mph not even quite topped out in 4th gear before it hits the govenor.

could it be that the speed governer is only in 5th on the sr since you guys both said that it went high in 4th?

I have a speed cut in 4th and 5th. It looks like your going faster because once the needle goes past the 110mph mark the speedo error is crazy at that speed.

15-20mph off! If you have a turbo timer that connects to the speed sensor on the ecu you will get more realistic readings and it will inform you that you are not going 125mph. When I was at VIR going down the front straight my instructor thought we were going like 130mph but I informed him its massive amounts of speedo error. The needle was near the 100ths place on the odometer.

An ECU retune or Greddy speed cut defenser will allow you to go as fast as your HP will allow.

Or, you can cut the wire leading to the ECU that will let you go past 115, it works.

Thanks for all of the good replies. I'm glad to know that the sudden high speed bog down was because of the speed limiter, and not because the engine had a problem. For the time being, I'll keep it in place. My wack suspension can't really safely handle speeds that high anyway. =/

My buddy has done 155 mph on a stock SR20 ECU in his SRd 240. I have done 120mph in 4th and that is where my stock speed cut is due to my US gauge cluster. Advice if you want to do a top speed run is either get a Greddy speed cut, or unplug your speedometer you won't know how fast your going until the cops stop you and give you your ticket.:D

With that cut what problems will you later run into? Or is that wire strictly to just tell the ECU the mph and nothing else? If there are no known negative consequences of cutting the speedo wire to the ECU then why would anyone buy the Greddy SCD?

most people put the wire on a switch so its not a permanent thing. now lets remember, we dont know how "stock" these motors are, we dont know what happened in the first 60k miles...
