with some really good tuning, the limit of the stock bottom end is somewhere in the 450 to 500 whp range if im not mistaken. however, you are never going to get there without the addition of aftermarket cams, valvesprings, valves, solid lifters, etc. as well as a better headgasket.

^ You are mistaken. There are several stock SR's that have 600+ HP. To the original poster: Read this sticky zerothread/145184. You will find good SR info. And you will find an AIM list of SR gurus to ask more questions after reading the stickies. Ignore those who will try to flame this thread as most are jerks anyways. Welcome to NICO. If you want to ask me questions I'm on AIM from Thursday-Monday 4:00PM-12:30 AM CST. I'll be happy to help.

sorry i should have made it more clear. i am speaking purely from a reliable dd perspective. if you get near that limit, things eventually WILL start to break.

500 is above reliability. I'd stick to the low 400's.

Ofcourse you could always TURN DOWN THE BOOST on the street....

that's the good thing about a turbo...it's not based on a mechanical pulley like a supercharger...you essentially control how powerful your car will be at any given time. plus remember you don't have to be on boost all the time either. i have low gearing on my car so i rarely am on boost driving around the street. it saves me gas and lets me drive around incognito...sure boosting around town and blowing off at every stoplight is fun but getting pulled over by the cops, having them pop your hood, or getting your car jacked are things that not fun.

other than that i think 400whp would be a reliable number to aim for.

yeah headgasket, you might wanna work on your head a little bit too though, the bottomend is tough enough to go over 500, but the head needs just a bit of work. cams, valvesprings, retainers, and hg

Thanks alot, I'm definitely going to completely rebuild the engine first. I probably throw in new pistons, crank(if needed), cams and valves and valve springs.

Why do you have to build the motor, is it blown? I say you should just drop the stock SR motor in and call it a day. Have fun with it and upgrade slowly as you learn more about the motor. NO need to blow an expensive investment and learning through the hard way.
