Hi All! Obviously some of you have replaced your stock speakers. I have a 2008 G37S w/ the Bose w/o Nav system. I'm planning to replace the 6x9's in the rear deck and the 3.5" in each door. My question is: Has any one replaced the 10" subs in their doors? MB Quart has a reduced mounting depth 10" that I believe will fit. Also, How hard is it to get to the 3.5" in the rear seat sides. Would it be possible to place 6.5" speakers in their place (w/o major modding)? I'm not looking for a heavy bass system so I'd prefer not to put subs in the trunk. I'm just looking to get better sound quality out of the stock system. Thanks in advance.

I thought about going that route...but decided to try an aftermarket sub first. Much better than OEM, the sub filled out the sound. Didn't need to replace the mid/highs or the door "sub". However, taste is subjective.

Not sure on the mounting depths...that's something you're going to have to pull the panel off to see what goes back there. Another option is local shops may have done all of the work for a G37 already.

The tweeter is 4ohm in the doors, not sure if the mid is or not. If the mid is 2ohm then I would not replace it with a standard 4ohm model. The current Bose 10" speaker is a shallow depth speaker as well. Best bet is to open a door and pull them out for evaluation.

Couple of weeks ago, I tore apart my passenger door to see how the sub is placed in there, and what sort of room there would be for replacements. With that in mind I thought I would share what I found in this related thread as a general reference.

The total height of the stock S/W is about 3 3/8". The mounting depth is only about 1" or so from what I can tell of the crappy pictures I took (It was difficult to hold the tape measure and take a picture at the same time, could have used an extra set of hands). The room behind the hole is variable depending on where you measure from because the guide rail for the window comes down behind the speaker on its left side, offset from the left side of the mounting hole by about 1". From that side the available depth is about 2 1/8". The opposing side offers a bit more room since the guide rail isn't there, but with the window down it is only about 2 1/4".

Here are a few of the pics I took that turned out:

The mounting depth depicted in this pic appears bigger than I think it actually is, I believe the angle makes it look deeper. The last pic below shows it closer to being only about 1". Wish I would have gotten a better measurement on it.

The pictures are helpful. What type of speakers did you go with.I have a 2011-G37 I really do not to do any cosmetic modifications on the door panel? Please advise?

Shallow mounts will be the way you need to go:

I think the door speakers are 8" Check out these: http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate- ... B008GTWAI2

martyo - I haven't replaced them, still using the stock speakers. I just took it apart to see how everything looked and what the options were. Frankly, since I have started to work from home more and more, I don't really drive my car that much so I don't know if I will ever attempt to replace anything considering the decent sound the stock setup provides.

joe - the front door speakers, at least in my 2010 G37x, are definitely 10" shallow-mounts. Though, I don't see any reason you couldn't put a decent 8 in there if you can find one shallow enough...just a matter of making an adapter of some sort.

The coupe and the sedans, with Bose, have the 10" shallow-mount in the doors. Surprisingly the coupe system sounds infinitely better than the sedan (I have both). If you want to replace the factory 10" sub then Pioneer, JL Audio, Rockford and others do make them (google search for "shallow sub"). You will probably need a bracket made as the 10" factory door sub I hear has a 11" mounting hole.

my bad...thought they were shallow 8's...just make sure the subs don't require a sealed box.
