I did a few searches, couldn't find what I was looking for, so:

What do you consider the best tire size for a stock S13 SE rim? Stock suspension. I had 205s on it for a while, not sure if I like them better or worse than the 195s that were on it before. Suggestions? Oh, and I've heard some talk about changes in the size (I'm assuming height) affecting speedometer reading. I'd rather not do that.

FYI, one of my mismatched, bald, $15 tires (I know) blew out yesterday. I'm thinking it's probably time I got a set of not-so-crappy ones.

Thanks.

stock i believe are 195/65/15 or 195/60/15 Its either of those.

You'll notice the change in Sped reading if your going from 15's to 18's yes

Tire rack tells you factory tire sizes, and options...

Original Equipment is 195/60-15

Optional Equipment is 205/60-15

I have the later and get rub on left hand full lock turns.

Also, my speedometer should be reading 2% slower. Meaning that when it says I'm going 60 mph, I should really be doing 61.2 mph...

Still an option on the base. That and the tires on my SE when I bought it where 195s. That could have been the previous owner, or a not so savvy shop.

Stock is 195/60/15You can go 205/55/15 for a close match.I have 205/50/15 on my car in the Fitment thread in the wheel & tire forum.

If you're looking for great tires for price go with Avon Tech M500 tires from TireRack. Great price because it's their house brand. Quality is better than Nitto450. I'm using them myself.

You shouldn't have any difference in speedometer reading with either of those size tires. The first number is width, not sidewall. 205s shouldn't rub at all either, I had them on my first 240sx.

edit: to the original poster - I've ran both 205s and 195s on my 240 and there isn't much difference between the 2 other than 205s are a bit better in the turns due to a wider foot print - but I don't think you'll notice if they were the same type/model/manufacturer of tire. It's really not worth a debate, the narrower 195s could possibly fare a bit better in the snow as narrower tires do.

I have 195/60/15 in the front and 205/65/15 in the rear. I like the stance with this tire combo.

They width actually changes the outside diameter. Not by much, and that's also assuming that the oem speedo is 100% accurate.

Thanks all for your help. Three more Qs:

1. Is there an advantage to going with wider tires in the rear, versus having 205s on all 4?

2. How large of a spacer can I fit safely on stock lugs? I've had a set laying around that I'd like to throw on if I can.EDIT: I'm guessing it's 5mm, since PDM racing sells 5mm spacers without longer studs, but for 10mm and above they come with longer studs (25mm comes with bolt-on spacers). Correct me if I'm wrong.

3. Is buying from Tire Rack or somewhere else online and paying shipping + mounting really cheaper than buying tires at some local tire shop? Is there a reason everybody on here always talks about TireRack?

getting staggered on stock wheels are retarded, not only because the difference are so minute, the rims dont poke out of the wheel wells so no one could ever tell. you wont be able to rotate your tires either, but since your a 240sx driver it wont matter cause your a mad tyte drifter.

i have 18s, and my speedometer was accurate 100%, unless the rx7 i was testing it with had their speedometer off too lol, he did get a lot of speeding tickets.... lol

Absolute first time I've ever heard of that. My TA had 245 stock and I've gone to a 275 on a larger rim with no change whatsoever on the speedo.

edit: Yorb, its not worth staggering your tire size when they're that small. I had for a short period of time on my first 240 only because I could fetch for one set of tires, the rear were bald the most so they got changed first. I had 205 on the rear and 195 on the front - you really won't notice a difference other than you can't rotate your tires normally. Not worth it.

The door says Front 195/60/R15, Rear 205/60/R15

I want to go with 195/60R15 Front (New tires on front already) and 215/60R15 on Rear if they fit. if not 205/60R15 works.

and Yes the Wider the Better.

Wider is better for initial launch traction to an extent and for cornering/high speed turns, obviously in optimum onditions. Wider is not better in the snow, is not better in heavy rain fall against hydroplaning. Theres pros and cons to tire sizes, saying wider is better is not always a valid comment.

Thanks guys.

Has anyone had Kumho Ecsta ASXs? They're the cheapest of the cheap on Tire Rack ($50 for 60 series, $65 for 55 series), and have pretty outstanding reviews.

I think I'm going 205/55/15 or 205/60/15 depending on who I want to listen to on this thread.
