Hey all. Just started driving my new $275 240 and noticed that the OE radio will come on for 15-30 secs then shut down. It'll do it over and over if you keep trying. The antenna comes up and everything.

Before I dig into it I thought I'd see if anyone else has had a similar problem. I'm certainly no electrical wiz, but if I take my time, I'll get it done or break something trying. I need to start looking for the schematics.

I imagine it's internal to the deck and not worth fixing. Aftermaket decks seem to be relatively cheap, but I'm old and don't care as much as I once did. The thing is I have to make sure it's not something I can do first. Do what you can with what you have I always say. Keep a few more of those dead presidents in my pocket.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like one of your speaker wires could be shorting out somewhere or you have seriously fried speakers. You may just have a worn out headunit.

Thanks for the reply. A short. I'll keep that in mind. I haven't attacked it yet.

Well, I found out why. Some idiot had half of a cassette lodged in there. I guess it ate the tape then they tried getting back out but only managed to dig half out. Apparently the deck didn't know what to do so was shutting itself down.

Woo hoo, some background noise to dull the boredom.
