I have a '96 300ZX with the original Bose stereo system. The system started cutting out in short increments and has gotten worse over time. The LCD display functions when radio is on showing power but I get no sound most of the time the car is running. Sound will cut off for no reason and come on later for no reason, however LCD still shows. Antenna also has its own mind. While radio is on, antenna may automatically go down and/or come up. Sound may be lost while antenna is down or while it is up. Loss of sound started but came back on after seconds or minutes. Now, 9 months later sound may be lost for 30+ minutes before it comes back on. Any words of wisdom?

Sounds like the remote wire or wires is fed up. When the sound goes out that means the amp is not being turned on (maybe). When the antina goes down that means that it thinks the sterio is off, which means that there is no power going to it and the antina will go down which is also part of the remote wire (mabu). I think my guess is very on the spot. Sounds like ether you need to get an aftermarket sterio to put in or find a used bose sterio for you car on ebay.

Hope this helps.
