Yes, there is a very specific way to put on piston rings.
First of all, you would want to hone out your cylinder walls in order to properly break in your new rings.
Second of all, go to Autozone and get one of those piston ring installers. It will prevent trying to put the rings on and snapping them in half.
Third of all, go get your self a FSM and it will tell you how to arrange piston rings properly. 1st, 2nd ring and oil control rings all have to be arranged a certain way relative to the piston and you DO NOT want to mess that up.
Just take your time.
