Hey,

so I ordered my SR front clip and I am still waiting. It is expected to be here by September. I have a HKS Dragger II catback, which is 85mm and is strictly for the SR20DET motor pumping out large HP.

My question is this, I cannot wait to install this catback. Though, I am not sure if it will be loud as heck after I installed this huge catback on my stock KA. I also want to remove my heatshields and coat it with underbody coating during the summer.

Should I install the Dragger II catback? Will it be too loud??

No, It will sound pretty quiet as compared to an sr20 on the business end of it.

bigger exhaust = more power top end

also a turbo car sucks and spits out a heck of a lot more air an NA car, so having a 3.4 ( or something.. i did 8.5/2.4) anyway your not spitting enough exhaust gas out for it to be effective.

just wait till you get your sr with a turbo spool the size of a dinner plate.

if you want noise just take the car off all together ^)^

it will be loud. When i put my blitz nurspec on my na ka24de, it had a load aggressive tone. I didnt mind the noise at all. I lost a liitle of the bottom end. but the engine reved to redline a lot smoother and faster.

I just put my Apexi Single N1 catback system on my 97 about 2 weeks ago. It has 3 inch piping and has a pre silencer, I dunno about your exhaust. Its not really too too loud when I have the windows down, sounds pretty good too. When the windows and sunroof are up/closed however, the exhaust might as well be going through the interior, its real loud. Still well worth it though, shouldn't be too bad, go ahead and stick it on.

Biggest i'd go on an All motor engine is 2.5" MAXIMUM.

I thought that a turbo made the exhaust more quiet........ plus youll have a BOV to listen too.

yeah I know, I'm looking towards the future for when I turbo it. It still works great, maybe a little less low end but not very noticable. When I stuck on my cone filter to the stock intake pipe is when it really made a difference in sound and performance.

you don't want to put an 85mm exhaust on a non-turbo car. naturally aspirated cars need back-pressure in order to make power, this is why most aftermarket manufacturers will only go with a 2.5 inch exhaust on 4-cylinder applications. the only time anyone would need a 3-inch or bigger exhaust would be with V8's or larger.you would be hurting more than helping in this case. please just wait until the swap is done.

I would go ahead and stick it on...why not. One less thing to do when you get your SR clip. Dont SR's bolt right on to stock/catback exhaust. I'd say do it. All these people are saying dont do it because you are N/A. If you already ordered your front clip, that means you won't be N/A for long. Bolt that big sum***** on

If you have any plans at all to go turbo, go ahead and buy as big of an exhaust as you think you will ever need. You don't want to buy TWO exhausts. Just get the one for your turbo application and you can have it on your NA car in the meantime, you'll lose some low end torque and power but it will rev up alot smoother and quicker, and you'll gain that power back on the top end. Period.

Ahhhhhhhh...

No, no, no.

Backpressure is an effect, not a cause.

N/A cars need exhaust velocity to create power (from scavenging at high RPM)...and an EFFECT of properly sized piping (that creates velocity) is a little more backpressure.

Backpressure is bad in any case - The less you have the better...but with a propperly sized exhaust for an N/A application, you're bound to have some. It's finding the *perfect* balance between velocity and restriction that's the art of N/A exhaust selection.

man, i wish this myth would die.

this is why most aftermarket manufacturers will only go with a 2.5 inch exhaust on 4-cylinder applications.

most aftermarket manufacturers go with smaller exhuast for n/a applications because it gives broader power gains on the dyno.
