I did a search and didnt come up with anything.

Who's running boost and stock ignition? How many psi?

Im looking into my options for ignition and ordered a standalone BTM, but now im wondering if i should get an ignition also.

Plans are to start out with 5-7 psi and work upto 10-12 once my fuel system/MAF are upgraded.

thanks

the stock ignition with some nice new, or upgraded wires and plugs(new rotor, cap, etc) will be more than sufficient. If you need added assurance you can get a coil that puts ot some more energy...

in short: a well-kept stock system is fine.

you'd probably want one step colder plugs.

Worse cased scenerio, you buy a MSD super coil. But you should be good till atleast 15 psi on the stock(well Kept) ignition system. I didn't run into ignition problems till I crossed 25 psi.

damn, good to hear!. I already have a Blaster II coil.

Speaking of ignition stuff,

1. Would a used BTM be worth the $$?

2. What about retarding the timing, or is stock timing okay? On my lude, i had it retarded 4 degrees just to be safe.

stock is 270cc, SR20s are 370 and I believe drop in, for 14psi, you SO need to upgrade the fuel, and I WOULD NOT use an FMU for 14psi if I were you, also, use the nifty search function, or even the FAQs, it'll tell you about fuel delivery

Well you came to the right place TS2...

J92, I use a knock sensor when ever I adjust my boost, so I can run as much timing as possible. I don't like taking timing out, unless you have a piggyback or standalone and can simply remove it from the higher boost maps. Removing timing will kill your lowend(off boost) driving in my opinion. I know a few guys on here running 12-15 psi with the timing left at stock.

I can't stress enough the importance of getting a knock sensor.

I was thinking about that last night. Do you just need to get a hole threaded in the block and screw a knock sensor in there? What do you use to take readings off the knock sensor? My friend used to use a palm pilot to log his knock sensor in his DSM. Ive seen some DIY devices around the net for this too.

Forgot to mention, i did a DIY detonation detector. It is a super-sensitive amplified microphone that is clamped to my bottom end. I can hit a button on my radio and hear it through the speakers. Its pretty neat. Now ive got a sub, so i can 'Feel' the engine too

You're my hero. Ive seen a DIY page where you can make your own for $30, but i might just buy the pre-built one you got there. Thanks for the link!

what about the MSD 6 BTM Boost Timing Ignition System. It retards the timing a certain amount per pound of boost, but it's stock at idle and lower RPMs,

yeah, I know, you don't really need it, but wouldn't you think that it'd be worth it if you wanted to upgrade the ignition anyway?

Ive already got a BTM ordered, and im getting that knock sensor that WD recommended and I just ordered a tech-edge wideband.

So, im going to re-thing my whole fuel system (FMU right now) and go with injectors and control them with my SAFC until i max the maf out, then go standalone with MAP

how accurate exactly is a hacked MAF, that's like getting a genereal JWT tune, your gonna inject fuel like some peopel cook "just a pinch of salt" each engine performs differently, and if you want the most out of it, you will do it right.

WDRacing, I understand that your doing this as a business, and you've done it many times, and you know what your talking about, but wouldn't you agree that there is just so much that a hacked MAF and some larger injectors running STOCK fuel and ignition maps can do? yeah, it'll get you places quick, but how much of that fuel and air is wasted 'cause it wasn't used to it's full potential,

I'm just seeing if people understand, that, I understand that not everyone can get to a dyno, or not everyone can tune their own engine, but I don't think you should be throwing more boost at things when you haven't made the boost you have 100% efficient.

don't get me wrong, I am by no means an authority on anything, nor am I trying to get into an argument or flame war, I just, well, I just needed to say that,

thanks,
