Stock HID - what temp

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

What is the temp of the stock HID lamps? I searched on the forums and couldn't find a post that mentioned this. Also search online and I couldn't find any thing conclusive.

Supposedly I have HIDs on my QX50, but they look like 4300K (my lights have a pale yellow hue to it). Is that supposed to be the stock temp? Or do I have halogens? :ohno:

edit: Oh, I tried to physically check my car to make sure I had HIDs, but there's a beige/light grey twist on plastic cap that i can just barely got my hand on, but I haven't tried popping open. I don't want to take half the car apart to get anything that I accidentally drop.

Update: I was finally able open up the lid, and I do have halogens. I'm going to the dealership tomorrow and ask them why they lied to me. The salesperson said the car has HID. The quote says HID. And the contract I signed paying for it says it has HID. :wtf2:

1. I believe all OEM HID headlights are spec'd to be more or less right around the 4300K color temp.

2. I also believe the HID package on the EX/QX comes with the adaptive front lighting system (turns the lights when the car turns). If your QX50 has this system, I think there is a button somewhere on the dash, below and left of the steering column that enables/disables it. Whether or not you have this button should be the biggest indicator of having the HIDs installed from the factory.

3. While salespeople are typically knowledgeable about the car models they sell and their features, I don't think in general that they know the technical details of some of these features as well as an automotive enthusiast would.

Please let us know what happens.

Looking forward to hearing what your dealer tells you about the missing HID lights.

I bought mine used, coming from an RDX, expecting it to have HIDs since Infiniti > Acura when it comes to luxury stuff... but it had the dreaded halogen lights too. I upgraded the bulbs to the silverstar ultra, or something like that. It was better than before, but nothing like the HIDs I had been used to. Before my RDX, had an IS300 so I had had HID lights for the last 8yrs or so - Now they are not a luxury "nice to have" item, they are a requirement!
I put in the Morimotos - but the whole point of my post was to say I specifically picked 4300K because I wanted them to look like factory HID lights. I am not a huge fan of the blue tints, no matter how subtle. I like 'em white like OEM stock.

If your car has adaptive lighting then it most likely has HID's, when I was getting my 8k HID's installed by buddy had a extra EX headlight laying around with HID+adaptive lighting (but we couldn't find the other headlight so I just got HID's installed) but he said nothing beats factory OEM HID's with adaptive lighting.
Hopefully the dealership can sort everything out for you, worst case they should instal new lights for free!

Your car is apparently brand new, so should have the window sticker detailing trim and contents. What does that say?

All they did was apologize, for now. I'm going to squeeze them to give me the Infiniti Red Bull shirt signed by Vettel they have framed at the dealership.

Just a little background, I'm in Panama (Central America) so we don't get the same packages. Although we don't even get packages. Just one trim level, which is the Journey AWD. Seems pretty much the same thing as what you guys get in the USA, except that the manual is in Spanish and has additional info for QX50s with the 2.5L engine (bleah).
