I have stock HID's on my 3.5 coupe. I am still a bit confused on the whole HID scene here and how exactly things work so here is my n00b question (sorry none of the HID threads i could find talked about this situation).

I have the stock HID's but I want the 6000k HID color (more purple/blue), do i need to spend 2-300 on an entire HID kit, or can I just get different bulbs??

To better understand HID's, I would also like to ask, the HID 'kits' I see being sold for hundreds of dollars, is that some kind of amplifier/power converter for the lights, because they require more power to be so bright? The power converter part is whats so expensive right? So you should be able to just buy different bulbs to get the 3000k/6000k/10000k look?

all you need is new D2S bulbs.

the "amplifier/power converter" you see in those kits is called a ballast. HID lights require significatly more power (watts) to turn on than standard halogen bulbs, but after theyve turned on they use less watts than halogen bulbs. the ballast is what helps to regulate and create the necessary power to ignite the bulbs.
