Ok...so I was driving last night from work to Guitar Center, everything fine and dandy. Went into the store and came out, got back in the vehicle to turn on my truck and I always keep my headlights on automatic. When I turn my truck on I noticed the right passenger HID starts flickering very softly, I was parked in front of another store which has a reflection when you park so I was noticed from their, and then all of sudden the darn thing turns a very ugly pinkish color, I was like "what the he!!". I drove home with an f'd up HID and the stares I got from other drivers like "what the hec is wrong with that $hit" I was very angry and upset but it was meant to happen since my truck has about 117K miles on it, so from zero to 117K, I would have expected for one HID to go bad.

Called Infiniti this morning to ask for prices, just the Xenon bulb itself is $385.00, but the tech mentioned that it could probably also be the ballasts and gave me a quote on that of $595.00, I was like "darn"!! Why so much??

But overall here's the deal that I wanted to ask you guys, is it better that I invest on aftermarket HID's? I know aftermarket HID's at a good aftermarket store I could get both for $350.00 and if I throw in an extra $200.00 I could get HID's as well on my fogs. Any differences on lighting with aftermarket HID's??

I upgraded my 03 Accord to HID's from this aftermarket store CarTrendz.com and they look awesome on my Accord. Just want to get opinions from some of you.

I think that's a little early for the lamp to go out. I've got 180,000 miles on mine and they're both still working great. I have had to replace the switch though which was only about $80. When HID's go out they usually get dim and then just drop out. I'm just guessing but a color shift that extreme could be the ballast not being able to regulate the voltage properly.

I haven't messed with any aftermarket kits, I still haven't decided what to do when my lamps or ballasts go out.

I though the same thing too as far as the ballast goes. One thing I did notice though that when I first turn on my headlights they glow the exact same amount of light but after like 5-10 seconds the passenger side starts dimming into that pinkish color and light output looks very low and crummy. I'm guessing it might be the ballasts then, if it were a bulb issue the bulb would not even go on right?

If the lamp is going out it will dim and usually the color will not change, but that's usually. One way to troubleshoot is to swap the driver's side with the passenger's side lamps. If the problem follows the lamp then you know that's it. If it doesn't then you know it's the ballast. I'd wear some kind of gloves as to not get any oil from your hands or debris on the lamps too.
