I've been reading about HID Conversions for the Altima Sedan, and a lot has been mentioned about HID Glare. However on the Stock HID Setup they don't use Projectors at all. Matter of fact I've been told the headlight assemblies are essentially the same for HID or Halogen on the Altima Sedan. Is this true or are they somehow different? Do the stock HIDs give off the same kind of glare as you would get from a HID Kit installation? I'd love to be able to see the assemblies side by side to compare. Anyone care to shed some light on this. No pun intended.

Your not going to get any glare on the stock HID setup because they are using D2R bulbs. D2R bulbs features optical shielding and is specially designed for various types of reflection headlight systems.

The black vertical shield on the bulb can be seen here...

This setup is quite efficient for glare reduction and optimal light output. The Headlight assemblies are the same.

And oh yea, just saw you registered. Welcome to Nico!

Welcome to NICO!

I just installed my aftermarket HID's and I have no glare whatsoever. My gf's car was stalling so tonight I drove her car and she followed me in my car and let me tell you this; the X-Light HID's 5000K has NO glare AT ALL. I was expecting to get a little glare, but there was nothing! A 350Z with stock HID's was driving along side of my car so I could compare the two, and I really think my car had the nicer looking HID's. The more I drive with them, the more and more I get impressed.

That clears that up for me. Is it possible to run that D2R Bulb with let's say that X-light setup that Generic808 is speaking of?

Thanks to both of you for your posts and thanks for welcoming to the forum

I don't think you can. I'm pretty sure the bulb bases will not interchange with each other. Of course, you could tweak the harnesses and take a dremel to your light housing to make them fit, but the aiming of the lights may be off.

Why not just go with aftermarket HID's at 5000K and it'll look stock without a glare? Well, at least mine don't give off a glare.

You could always use a re-based D2R to H11 bulb, meaning the base of the bulb is an H11 but the bulb itself is a D2R.

You could also just use a plug and play kit like Eric is suggesting.

A bit pricey, but here's a link to a rebased D2R to H11 bulb that Tyler was talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V

when you install an aftermarket kit, do you still use the little chrome cup inside the light that goes over the bulb itself?

The reflective helmet piece? Yes, that stays inside the housing.

Everything stays intact. The only thing you're doing is removing the old bulb and replacing with the HID bulb. Nothing on the housing is removed, it's basically a plug and play deal. Good luck!
