I know the head gasket can be a weak point, but I think its good incase you blow something itll be that. But do you have any idea how much hp will the stock head gasket with stand?

I know a person running over 400hp on two of them stacked to lower compression with stock headbolts. Sounds insane yes, but it hasn't blown out on him either. That's with a JWT ecu and 660cc injectors, so the fueling is conservative.

stacking two heads gaskets together to lower compression sounds like someone's just being cheap. but hey if it works, more power to them.

the stock headgasket has been proven to hold over 20psi of boost.

Have you guys looked into the cometic head gaskets? Supposed to be really good. I did some reading but need to do a little more research on them.

Yeah, they are TOO strong for me though, the HG is a fuse imo and I would rather it blow than anything else. The stock HG holds up just fine anyway and is cheaper...

there's 2 ways to think about what headgasket is proper. If you were on the edge of detonation, the metal would be more proper because its going to resist damage. If you had a more extreme case of detonation, the stock one would be better because it might blow vs the pistons taking a dump.I ran into the problem of extreme detonation and the JE forged slugs cracked above the ring lands but the Cometic headgasket was untouched. So I think it all comes down to how good of a tuner you are and if you have the right tuning equipment(standalone fms) to allow for consistent good range air fuel ratios.Nobody wants their motor to detonate but it comes down to how flexible your computer is for tuning. Its hard to say but I hope you understand.Guys, if I what I said was totally off and not correct, let me know, because this is going off of what ive learned from past mistakes.

If you are detonating enough to damage the pistons, blowing the headgasket is not necessarily going to change that. I wouldn't change the headgasket just for the sake of boost. But if I were pulling the head, upgrading would not be a bad idea. But certainly not necessary. Just make sure you tune it right the first time and make sure the entire system is reliable(Boost controls). That done, it should minimize detonation as being a threat to your motor.

I ran a cometic on my Skyline(RB20DET) and it held 28 psi with no problems, in fact it survived 3 motor swaps where the pistons didn't.

But the stock headgasket has been proven to work exceptionally well. No real need to upgrade.
