My gf's '00 Maxima GLE had a an exhaust system hanger fail, so the already slightly stressed joint started to break, causing a really crappy exhaust note and what feels like a slight loss in HP (maybe something else is going on as well)...

I have solved the problem with cleverly placed hi-temp zip ties, but the doom of a broken muffler joint is impending.

The muffler's fine, it's a good-sounding OEM replacement and it's in good shape.

If a shop would fix it, cool. Or I'll just get an OEM replacement and replace it myself.

I found teh Bosal and Ansa mufflers, which are the right price and I believe they are properly vehicle specific...

Are there any other places I can get a Maxima-specific muffler for attachment to a stock exhaust system for, I dunno, up to $150 USD? I'd kinda like to throw a Flowmaster on there if I could...

Mufflers are a tough deal because they are what I would consider driver specific, to each his own, mine range from stealth to what did you say... Personally, because you really are not sure what your GF would like, try to have it repaired at a shop first. They can tell you up front what it would cost. If they can't help you out, see what they recommend and then shop for it your self, you can always go back later. As long as it is not dragging on the ground, no harm done.--Mike

If you're looking to "upgrade" to something with a bit more sound to it, search around for exhaust threads here in the Max forum. As Mike said, it's very much subjective, but you can at least get an idea of what sound certain options might produce.

Certainly nothing wrong with an OEM replacement, either.

I'm looking for something slightly higher quality than an Ansa or Bosal, and don't care too much about sound... the GLE is the GF's car and she's fine with a stock sound... She would like just a bit throatier sound if it's a possibility... I'll search some more but do you guys know of anything off hand that would fit the bill?

On the net all I can find for actual Maxima mufflers is the Ansa and Bosal, all others appear to me to be just universal mufflers... I wanna make sure that what ships to me is an actual Maxima muffler... I don't wanna go to a shop and ask for pipe bending and fabrication to be done...
