I just recently swapped my 3" catback for a stock 2.25" catback, and for some odd reason (or maybe its just me), but it seems as if my mileage just got waaaay suckier.

my previous set up was a greddy divorced elbow, 3" downpipe, 3" cat, 3" piping to my 3" blitz nur can.

Since i've been given several warnings by cops about my exhaust, I decided to swap back to stock, but I just did from the cat back.

Other than my noticeable loss in horsepower, it seems as if my mileage got worse as well. Could it be that I'm just stepping on my gas pedal harder to accomodate for my loss in power? or is there a real reason why my mileage sucks more than before?

discuss

yea your cars not breathing as easy any more. it can exhale freely so you gas mileage goes down. ive seen a lot of people when they added an exhaust their mpg went up.

I would just get a resonator put some where in the pipe line or buy a lower toned exhaust . But stay with the 3 inch and check your local laws of the decibels that exhaust can be ..

so what you're saying is that my mileage should be performing at stock specs then right? Because honestly, I don't think it is. I feel like its worse. I'd say I drive like 20-40 miles a day, and I'm wasting like a 1/4 tank.

nah dude, its stupid where I live. Decible limit is around 95.9 dbl or something, but cops don't care. Their definition of "modified exhaust" is anything other than what looks stock. Lets just say my cousin got pulled over for having a stock exhaust with a chrome tip welded on (still had stock cat and stock resonator)....

Here in Florida almost everyone gets away with aftermarket exhausts. I did just get a warning the other day. I looked up the law and it states: Aftermarket exhausts are legal as long as it is NOT louder than stock. My exhaust is not even that loud and I painted it black. but I'm guessing he saw that it was aftermarket so he told me it was illegal. I'm looking into getting the close to stock looking exhaust from megan or circuit sport's. Then it will look just like the stock exhaust. One of my friends got a exhaust ticket in his stock srt-4 with his stock exhaust. He told the cop it was stock but he didn't wanna hear anything like he's some kind of gift from god.

Free flowing exhausts improve the motor's combustion cycle, thus making it run more efficiently and improving gas mileage.

The SRT-4 is loud from the factory. Cops don't like import styling, they think we ARE all young punks..I would definetally look into the Megan exhaust that looks stock, our SR's are pretty quiet as far as 4 cylinders go
