I have a 91 hatch with redtop SR and this guy have a stock auto C5 vette, he said my car is a POS  and would easily dusted my SR. Tell me if I have a chance. This is 1/4m run. Here's my set up.

- 3" dp, 3" test pipe, and 3" exhaust.- Starion FMIC, - HKS mega flow intake,- Walbro FP- Blizt SSBOV- manual boostcontroller( cheap $hit)- C's shortshifterI just finish this car and never run it at the track. I'm planning to run 14psi, stock 15" tires. Can I beat this C5 and What 1/4m time will i get? Not bragging but I know how to drive. thanksTT :)

if you haven't been near a track in your life, you will loose, experience in the track counts when the cars are similar in performance, and C5 are hard to beat, don't think that once your on boost you will kill all...

go a few times, put up some times, practice and i bet my friend that with out doing any other mod you will get better times.

Ohh I've been going to the track ever since I got my first 240sx, this is my third one. I live around philly and I went to the street racing in Philly almost every week. I just finish this project couple of days ago and havent got a chance to run this yet.. What kind of 1/4 mile time can i get? I'm hoping to get low 13s.TT

what kinda tires you each running?

Id say he wont get traction, and will run a mid 13.

but i also think he would know what his car can do, and if it only runs 13's i doubt he would talk s***.

you will not run a low 13 on street tires. Most likely a 14 second pass at 14psi.

If you can run slicks, and he run street tires, you can beat him....but like i said, if his car is only in the 13's i dont think he would be calling people out.

: )

I would be very careful and deffinately would not race this guy for any money. He might say his car is stock, but like someone else said I doubt he would be calling people out if he did'nt have a chance. Also, these cars are very fast even when they are stock,so much so that alot of guys with supped up 5.0s don'nt like to race them, and even more so when modded.I have seen quite a few C5s hit low 13 sec. 1/4 mile, most right around 13.20.Remember that there is quite a few things on these cars that you will not be able to see if they are changed or not unlike an import where you can see if a guy has swaqpped engines, big intercooler/turbo,diff.intake etc.,this guy could have a stroked 430 inch LS1 with ported big valve heads and a nasty camshaft and be pushing around 500 h.p. and it could look stock, that is the way the best street cars are anyway-they look stock.Any way just be careful, tell the guy to give you a 10 car head start cause he has twice the cylinders and see what he says.Let us know how it goes and GOOD LUCK!Aaron

Hey chrispy, I live in Jersey.Right now. I'm running stock se rims with 205/60 street tires and damper suspension. I've looked at his motor, its all stock, street tires and even muffler is stock too. I dont think he know what SR20det is, he's not a real car guy, just a dumba$$ that thinking V8 is the best and all imports id a POS. About my car, I doubt that i'll run 14's, Ive seen people with the same set up running mid 13s and with LSD it should run low 13s. I'll go to Atco raceway sometime this week or next week to see how it run. If I can keep the tires stop spinning like crazy, I think i could beat him. hey srds14, what mods do you have on your car? By what gear did you took him?

As far as what your car will runif you are in the 15 sec range that is about like a good running stock 240,it feels pretty quick around town until you get a hold of something with some nutsyou can probally tell if you have rode in any of the newer camaros(93 up)that these are pretty fast cars, most are low 14 sec cars stock, they got just enough to put you back in the seat a little but not un-godly so,cars in this range will spin the tires on your first couple gear changes but are not going to have any real traction problems cars in the low 13 sec and high 12s are bad *** street cars,as far as STREET cars go.The only car that will run like this and be very common is a new vette.Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of cars that run this fast but most of them have been pretty heavily modified and just about any import running this fast is going to have a turbo or nitrous or both. These are the cars that turned most of the people I know into car guys (including myself) after getting a ride in a car that ran like this, these babies will put your *** back in the seat,it feels something like going down that first big hill on a roller coaster or when you are in a jet and it really gets going before it takes off,it gives you that funny feeling in your stomache like you are falling, its great. These cars are also going to have extreme traction problems when launched hard on street tires and most of them will be above 300 h.p. unless extremely light ala crx.I hope this helps a little in your assement of what your car will run,now go out and kick this fukers *** and show him what a SR20DET powered 240 is about.

Not to be a ****, but how much money you wanna put on you running a low 13 with your setup ? :)

Im not making this up, and i (obviosly) have an SR, i know what people run with various setups...and i can get a good estimate of what someone will run.

What boost will you be running?

If you are going to run 14psi, with the setup you have (stock ecu, no JWT tune, and no Apexi S-AFC), you will prob run a high 13. If you run any less boost, you'll prob run a mid or low 14.

You are running street tires, you will have a struggle for traction...

and being that you havent gone draging on a strip before, im guessing your best 60ft's will be in the 2.0-2.2 range, which will bring you about a 13.6-14.4 depending on boost etc....

Track racing is MUCH different than racing on the street. Its a totally different experience than launching on the street.

What RPM are you going to launch at?

JFYI: I have broken into the 12's on stock turbo, as well as our se-r w/ det on stock turbo, but i have only seen two other cars do it.....and we werent running 14psi or Street tires....

OT: I know someone w/ a "Stock C5" the ONLY thing he has done to the car is a big cam, and slicks, and runs 11's...internal motorwork cant be seen, so they can pretend that it is stock...

While we are on the subject, i live in an area where there is only 1/8 mile tracks. 7.8 at 86mph with a 1.8 60'....any guesses as the 1/4 mile time?

8.4 at 90mph with a 2.2 60'... any guesses as the 1/4 mile time?(wheel spin and lag)

the first is a sentra, the second a 240sx.

i dont have my timeslips in front of me, but they look like low 13 second 1/4's....maybe..

the [email protected] MPH is good, but is usually a little higher with wheel spin and a high 60ft, which looks like what you have...but low-mid 8's at about 85-90mph usually finish in the low 13's...i could be wrong though, its hard to say, boost pressure, tire pressure, shifting rpm are all going to have an effect on what 1/4 it will run...but thats similar to what times i run when i go high 12's or low 13's, but lower mph.

get traction the mph will be lower, but the et should drop a bit...

im dont wanna take guesses at what the fwd would run : )

IF the Vette has internal motor work done, you should be able to tell by just listening to it idle. The more you are around domestic cars the better you will get at telling if they are stock or not. A big cam will sound extremely "lopey" and sound like it's barely able to idle.

if the c5 is a vert youll do even better.

excpet the vette to do a solid 13.8 by him just stepping on the gas and going. somewhere around there.

you should be able to out luanch him even on street tires.. unless youre using some horrible tires or what not, but usually 240s can jackrabbit out of the hole quite nicely IF people can drive them. this doesnt mean rev to 4 and drop the clutch.

if youre really worried about beating him why don't you just drop some more $ into it and upgrade the parts of the swap that are holding you down?

you have a setup for 13s and so does he, it will matter of who's the better driver.

Mattback and I are from the same area and are friends.. I ran a 13.2 on stock setup set at 15psi with a 2.3 60ft in the middle of the day which was about 90-95 degrees and he can vouch for me on that. That was Full interior, 18" wheels w/245/40/18 Toyo Proxy FZ4's which are about the worst tires you can buy for performance.I HAD and open diff at that point and time as well. Mattback as well as myself know a few people that have ran sub 13's on the stock setup on street tires at 15psi.So if you can drive it then you can hit sub 13's stock setup.

As far as the Vette having traction problems... well its an Automatic which will help his traction some and the C5's also have a traction control system that is one of the best out however some people do not use it.

thats not true at all...you are not going to run sub 13's on a stock setup..i dont care who you know, or where your from....the stock intercooler, stock fuel pump, and stock exhaust diameter will NOT handle the boost or power to put down a sub 12 second time pass....BUT from what i hear you Tampa guys have the best/fastest imports, and the most knowledge of anyone else in the country, so it may well be that your running 12's at the 7PSI STOCK BOOST< which would be considered stock setup....why do i think you boys exagerate a little?

i do see you then say "stock setup at 15psi"...which isnt stock (stock you dont have a boost controller either and cant turn it up), and i dont believe you can run 15psi safely on stock fuel, and stock intercooler for two long with out detremental results...

(i know someone running 8's on a stock S13 head...does that mean he is running 8's on a stock setup sr20det? no not at all)

dsm, check out boosted's profile then go to his homepage...its not a stock setup, but he's gonna fry his engine soon if he keeps boosting 15 psi....and I will laugh :)

according to motortrend......the roadtested Z06, 5.5, 485hp, ran a best of 12.3, (even though chevy said 11.9), and the best they could get it, powershifting, was a 12.7 on stock tires...thats run after run, after run.....

This is interesting. DSM, The vette is not a z06. I've seen vette with exhaust ran 13.5 at Atco and i've seen vette ran 11.2 but those are twin turbo or highly built. From what I've heard from alot of people with sr, the SR will run low 13 with just basic bolts on. I believe i can take him. I'll max boost at 15psi and try to get my traction. low 13 isnt hard to get.

Sorry.. let me rephrase myself here.... I never had a STOCK silvia Side mount I/C and i dont know anyone that runs one here. The Starion is as close to stock as i have which i am also NOT running HARD PIPES i am running I/C pipes off of an MK3 Supra. Fuel is Delivered by a Walboro 255lph high pressure pump (w/stock 370cc injectors) which from what i understand is nessacary to put the SR into the 240 for fuel supplys. The boost controller is was made at Home Depot from an Air Compressor regulator, I have a 3" downpipe w/Apex i Catback seeing as how i NEVER had the Stock SR downpipe and the stock 240sx exhaust was rusted out. I also have a K&N.Now with all of that MINUS the boost controller i ran a 14.6 in the 1/4.And i know numorus people that run 15psi on the stock t25 all day long and have never once had a problem because of it. My turbo has been at 15psi for a year and still has NO shaft wobble from side to side or in and out and it still spins freely and doesn't smoke at all. Guess its just the luck of the draw huh?

As for the motor trend test.. that has nothing to do with this topic as it it refering to a "Z06" and this thread is about a "C5 Automatic".

Also.. i do realize that there ARE FAST CARS ALL OVER THE US and NOT JUST IN FLORIDA. However you all need to get off of your high horses and accecpt the fact that you do not know EVERYTHING about EVERY car. And i am in no way stating that i know more about one car then any of you. I just know about MY personal car and a FEW friends cars.

Exactly.. i have a few bolt ons that i HAD to have due to lack of STOCK SR20DET parts such as SMIC and Downpipe and exhaust. You should have no problem getting the 13's out of your car as long as your a good driver which from reviewing your prior posts you claim to be.Good luck and keep me/us updated on the race...

Until then...

its all true people. hate to say it but driver does alot of it, as well as taking care of what youve been given also has alot of it.

remember that alot of you probably got t25s taht were beat on and some were lucky enough to get non beat on t25s. this is the luck of the draw.

i guess when we mean stock setup we mean stock fuel, t25, no other power adders on pump gas

i definitly agree, but i run 12.70's-80's on my 'stock' setup also : )...

i run my t25 at 16psi all day...we have run the sr motor with the wastegate disconnected(closed), at full boost, app. 20psi, falling off to about 18, as long as detonation is prevented, no damage has occured to anything besides wear on the turbo...(of course we are aware of the 'inefficency of the t25 after 14-15psi') .the stock t25 is too small to pruduce any real power in stock form, so turbo life on the t25 is not something we are worried about...

but it can argued all day, and thats not what we are trying to do here, but upgraded fuel, exhaust, intake, tuned ecu etc are not stock setups : )

I believe the best run i ever had at the track was against a c5, i pulled 2 car lenths by the 1/8th mile and then he sprayed, and of course killed me. He sucked at driving tho and spun forever. I didnt get my time cuz it was an import/domestic grudge match and only the winner gets the slip

a stock c5 auto would be a monster on the street. TSC means no wheel spin. You better have your act togather... don't put money on it
