The DV leaked air under cruising conditions, like if I wanted to stay at a constant speed, say 50 mph. The car would "stutter". Then I would either have to let off the gas completely or give it more gas for the problem to go away.

One day I decided to remove the valve completely and all my drivability problems were cured.

The valve also doesnt like it when you run high boost as it leaks even more.

You must have had a lemon bypass valve. I do constant 14 psi on it and it does not leak. No problems at all. Been using it for a good 2 yrs now.

try to find a used dsm blow off valve and rig it on. They are good to hold a lot of boost, and you can find them cheap at a junkyard.

or a hks ssqv bov, that can be both ATM and recirculating. And the ssqv cannot leak too.

You actually dont even have to remove the stock bypass valve. Just unhook the vacuum hose going to the stock bypass valve and hook it up to your aftermarket bov wherever it is mounted in your engine bay. There are a couple kits out there that will let you replace the stock bypass valve with the aftermarket bov. You're going to have to cap off the intakeif you're not recirculating of course.
