My stock BOV leaks under vacuum and boost. Would crushing it fix it or do i need a new one?

It always leaks under vacuum... crushing it might help possibly try it cant hurt. Well unless you crush it to much i imagine. I just got a 1gen eclipse bov im going to use for mine. Supposed to be exact same they run bout 10psi so it will work but ill find out if it leaks at all under full boost. (whenever i get a gasket kit)

crushing the stock bov will hold as much boost as you can throw at it! ie 25-30 psi the only reason your wanting to upgrade is b/.c of the sound

crushing it wont do the trick if its still leaking, you need to disable the quick release function.this is simply done by either filling the small hole beside the bov vent hole under the flange with some epoxy or a more elegant reversable solution would be to tap it a little bit and use a setscrew and some locktite.THEN that valve will hold 30psi all day.

Could care less about sound. If i got the synapse i was gonna recirc it. I just dont want any leaking to happen. Mainly cause it causes the turbo to overspin for the boost. Ill fill that little hole and see what happens.

ah i forgot to mention that you'll still need to recirc it as the valve cant be used as a true BOV due to the inherent design.

I didnt plan on not having it recirc'd. I only remove the recirc hose when doing a boost leak test just to make sure things are working as they should and to find out the stock one doesnt at this point. lol. Its got 75k miles on the engine so it doesnt surprise me.

they are rather robust valves with low failure rate...but they have to be recirced as they tend to be open under idle vac.

Im still a little confused on the subject of venting to the atmosphere. Of course an engine always pulls vacuum at idle so technically its always open at idle correct? In other words your always pulling crap in unless its filtered at idle..... I'm guessing thats why some come with diff. springs to get it just right but that still doesnt add up to me. Increase spring till not open at idle then when throttle plate shuts still not open right?? huh Please someone explain i've got Corky Bells book and still get stumped.

Honestly i hate that squeeky noise of the SSQ and the RFL is just too damn loud. Ive got a GTS25T badge on the back of the car, i dont need a bov to tell everyone its turbo. I just want something thats leak proof and works like it should while being recirced.

Yeah i had one of them on my old S13 RB. I kinda like the Syncronic cause it comes with the recirc fitting and the mitsubishi flange adaptor for around $225.

Besides sounding retarded, HKS BOV's are known to leak more often than many other brands.
