Check out this ebay auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...74896It looks like the stock BBS rims from the Q45t but in a slightly wider width (I emailed the seller to make sure it's 7" wide). He states that each rim is about 12 lbs. I'm thinking of getting these for my summer tires and I can mount my snows on the stock silver BBS 6.5 inchers.

If there were some semi affordable (about $400/each) 16" forged rims that looked decent on the Q that were lightweight, I'd pick them up in a heartbeat.

I can't see upgrading to a 16" wheel that is waaaaay heavier when the handling benefits will be negligible. 12 lbs for rims...you can't beat that.

I was thinking of powdercoating them a satin silver finish or a brilliant silver...powdercoating is more durable and it doesn't cost a lot...usually about $60-80/rim.

Where can you get them done?

You just look up powder coaters in the Yellow Pages. Any machine shop usually has powder coating.

Chroming weakens wheels! If any wheels are not strong enough to begin with (or just enough perhapos for a Q), you make things dangerous by doing this. Then the heavy car makes them out of round in a heartbeat!

Personally, I have never quite understood the fascination with chrome wheels! They just do not do anything for me.

How does chroming weaken the wheel? I know it makes it heavier and harder to maintain but weakens it? I never heard that. Also, many dealerships chrome the factory wheels and charge the customer mondo bucks.

Yeah, I never got into the bling bling either...I have black rims on my Sentra and I love it....Hyperblack = the ANTI chrome.

I had chrome wheels on my 71 SS454, but that was back...er...well..nevermind. :D

I'd be amazed if those wheels were only 12lbs. A Volk TE37 16x7 is 12lbs.

FWIW, TE37 stands for Touring Evolution 3.7Kg, (8.1lbs) which is the weight of a 15x6 TE37.

I have a head full of useless information.

These wheels are the same ones I'm running now, but not with the garish gold color, mine are a pale platinum color. Be advised of a couple things...1. My car had these sitting on the showroom floor, many Infiniti dealers swapped these on to get rid of the stock wheels.2. They ARE very light, much lighter than stock. 12 lbs sounds right, definitely a LOT lighter than my stock pie pans, and I know cause I kept them and run one as a full size spare, and I've changed a couple flats on the road..the pie pan spare is heavy and I feel like Arnold the terminator throwing the BBS around, feels like half the weight.3. I have 137,000 on mine and they run out perfect, I have never had any balancing problems. BBS makes a quality wheel.4. The clearcoat will go with high mileage and a lot of car washes with "wheel brite" acid rinses. But only around the rim, and these in the auction do look real good, and you can clean them up for a quick good look with some of the polishes available. 5. The gold part may not be able to be changed by chroming or powder coating. But I'm not sure. That's the bad news, good news is the gold center section is actually some kind of plasticized covered material that cleans up completely regardless of age and has never been hurt by wear or the acids in car washes, unlike the rim section. And I bet the centers could be painted if they are plastic covered. Or I could be competely wrong and the centers could be originally powdercoated.6. Chroming is always bad as the process does weaken the wheel, EXTENSIVE discussions on the VIPER board about this as so many Vipers are raced. Even megabuck chrome HRE wheels have establhed a reputation of breaking if chromed and subjected to any decent level of stress. 7. If the mileage can be determined...I doubt more than mine! These wheels are a real good buy, if the rims have lost the clear coat, and I doubt that from the picture, they can be blasted and re clearcoated to look like new for probably under $25 per wheel. 8. If you don't like the gold color, wait a week and you will see the plain silver ones on ebay, very common.

I probably have the same exact wheels as you do on my car now, the same as in the pics, but kind of a cross between silver & pearl..esque, not gold.

I know they're light, I know they're strong, I know they're round, I know they're a little dated, but better than the pie pan, pie plate, etc.

12lbs just sounds light to me, be that as it may, BBS makes a good wheel, I have a 19" LeMans (plus six more 19x8 LM's) center hanging on my wall as well as 2 13x11 F1 BBS centerlock wheels (supposedly) from Michael Schumacher's 2000 season car collecting dust in the corner of my office.

I'm with ya, they're worth what they're going for at the moment, and then some.
