Ive been trying to post in the stereo board, but I dont get many responses (if any).

I read the post on the factory amp bypass and it said the rear amp was under the driver's side rear speaker. I went to my car and it wasnt there, nor any signs of it. Would it have anything to do with the trim levels/model years? I have a 1990 hatch, but I think the guy that did the write-up had a DOHC SE.

The 89-90 did not come equipped with the "active speaker system"(on any model). You have nothing to worry about.

...Yes I do! I was hoping I would be able to make my 120 watt 4x6 speakers sound better! Im stuck with the sound of these now

Thanks, thats what I figured.

Sometimes I wish I had waited and bought a DOHC...

buy a 4 channel amp, it will be WAY MUCH better than the 14 year old factory unit. you can get a decent one with a higher output than the factory for about 100-150.

Do you have an aftermarket deck? I think the aftermarket deck with infiniti 4x6's sounds way better than when mine was stock anyway. No amps(although I'm gonna add one), and I just by passed the amplifiers by running my own speaker wire.

if you have an aftermarket deck it sounds like poo with the factory amps still goin. what i did with my new 4x6 and new deck was simply bypass the amps. there are directions on how to do this in the stereo forums

Well the car came with a cd deck without a face, so this is my first time hearing the system at all, and Ive never heard the stock speakers.

I have a aiwa HU (free, from my old car) and (4) pioneer 4x6's.

89-90 did come with active speaker system. It's practically worthless, ditch it and externally amp the speakers with a good 4 channel.

Im still unsure myself, no one seems to be able to answer the question with something to back it up. Someone says there is NOT, someone says there IS.

WHERE IS THE STOCK AMP ON A SOHC S13?!?

from what i know, the front speakers have a built in amp, on the speaker itself... for the rears i have HEARD its either under the rear deck lid of the trunk, in the rear panels of the back seat... and somewhere else i dont know

I dont think its under the rear panels (if you mean under the rear speakers). I checked after reading the "successful rear am bypass" thread for the s13...no dice.

*bump*

Still havent found an answer to it yet.

Apparently, so far it seems like its only in DOHC models.

But where is it in SOHC?
