dont wash your stock filter its made out of paper wont work if you get it wet with water. just get the k& n drop in filter and you could clean it as many times as you wish

What are the odds of SuIiCiDal’s question being answered in the Nissan Altima Owner’s Manual?

I found this in the manual:

Maintenance and do-it-yourself Section 8

The air cleaner filter should not be cleaned and reused. Replace it according to the maintenance log shown in the NISSAN Service and Maintenance Guide.*

Unbelievable, but true.

* The Nissan Service and Maintenance Guide is a separate booklet that was included in the zippered pouch your Owner’s Manual is in. My zippered pouch was in the glove box when I took delivery of my Altima. Yours might be there too.

Check at a local auto parts store, or a WalMart in your area if you don’t want to buy a replacement filter at a Nissan Dealer. The price is somewhere around $10-$12.00.

Yeah the cleaning kit is like 10 bucks, for the K&N but it lays up the car for a day while it drys and you have a chance of fouling the MAF with the oil...but I mean how long you plan on keeping the car? Its not a performance mod, don't kid yourself, but it won't hurt. Hey look, I had K&N intakes in my last two vehicles, I wasn't disappointed, but soon realized the "butt dyno" BS...but I could wash the filter it was fun to install and drink beer and it sounded better (to me)...but we are talking drop in, so meh..it can't hurt and again it gives yah something to do and when you got the airbox apart install a Racingline short-throw...now that is worth it!

I say let him try. Might be as entertaining as Nala's snow plow thread. Make sure to include a walk through!

lol j/p. just shell out the $10 and grab a new filter, it's not that bad (even for a high schooler). if you can afford the car you can afford to maintain it
