Me and a couple of my friends went to atco raceway tonight. I drove my stock 1991 q their and my freind drove his stock 1998 mercedez amg 430 there. On the way there we had some fun and did a couple runs starting at 50 and ending at 80mph to my surprise the q and the benz were even the whole time. We finally got there and I had to wait an hour to run bc a supra blew his engine running. When i finally got to run i had to go against a modded corvette that ripped me apart he ran a 11.56. The Q did pretty good considering its stock with 188,000 miles on it. my times......r/t:.67660:2.529330:6.8091/8:10.174mph:73.62990:12.9551/4:15.492My friends benz ended up running a 14.2 im surprised the Q can keep up with a car with a quarter mile time like that

Mwa ha ha - oh how I love these cars. I'm sure the Vette owner was still pretty surprised how well you kept up.

Not too many cars out there that'll run as solid as the Q with 180,000+ miles...

Did you shift through, or just let the auto do the work?

I was gonna do 3 runs but since we had to wait an hour i could only do one. That one was with the auto. I think if i shifted it and had a better reaction time i could be around 15 flat. I wasnt to disappointed bc for a stcok 1991 the 1/4 time is suppose to be 15.7

Impressive! Qs seem to get faster with age.

Of course well built non US engines get better with age, as the extremely tight new tolerances are designed for the engine to last 300,000 miles.........assuming you change oil and filter every 90 days.

At some point the ring wear will override the gains from bearing wear in and a slow downward spiral begins [200,000 miles ?].

MY Q [299k] is still only a few tenths down in quarter from 200k peak......the idle isn't as new, but good enough [except in 100F with ac ON]............most of that is from chain stretch.

What was your speed at the 1/4 mark? Or did I miss that in your post?

ET variations are primarily tire related [how low the treadwear rating] {{oem as delivered TIRES were 160-200}} and of course the shift time between 1st and Second or 3rd .........if you don't do the quarter in 2nd gear ~~94 mph redline [90-93Q] ; [98 mph for 94-96Q]...........assuming stock 26" sizes.

Would it be possible to run a 15 flat? I just floored it with traction control off with a 2k launch. I let off the gas a little at the end so i think my time was a little off. If you were to manually select the gears and launch the car off the line at a higher rpm would it be possible to come close to 15.00?

congrats on getting the Q to the track for some 1/4 mile ET's as I am a big fan of the 1/4 mile track having logged well over 50+ runs. Your gas level and tire pressures are first things to adjust first...the rest as I have experienced all come from numerous runs. I still learn a little something each time I run. I think a 15.1~2 would be your best ET having everything setup correctly and knowing how your car lauches. There have been many times I thought I ran faster and then actually ran slower.

btw...don't power brake. It only heats up the transmission fluid and therefore making your ET's higher. You are already spinning the tires from a dead stop without power braking so why increase the chance of spinning them anymore. I keep each foot on the gas and brake but only apply the gas as soon as I see the 2nd~3rd yellow staging light before it goes all green to get good reaction time numbers.

Manually shifting will give you better number if you do things correctly by holding it out there for a good 1/2 second before you are suppose to shift. I had to do this against a Mustang where I only beat him by 0.1 secs on the first run letting the car auto shift...second run against the Mustang he was really pissed and let his car all out and so I held if for a full 1~one thousand count before shifting from 1st to 2nd (rode the 7,300 redline) and managed another 0.15 secs better and still beat the mustang but by only 0.05 secs.

Go to the track more and talk to others, do lots of runs, and have fun.
