I read the stiffening the chassis thread, but noone mentions stitch welding.

I pulled the carpet out of my car to start prep of wedling a patch in the giant a** hole in my floor pan, and noticed there are some stitch welds already around the tub.

Would it be advantageous to add more stitch welding to the passenger compartment? Or is the factory stitching adequate?

I would like to know if anyone knows places that could benefit from stitch welding reinforcement.

I figure I have the carpet out, I have the angle grinder out, I have the welder out, might as well stiffen up things a bit...

Can't hurt to add a bit more rigidity to a 'vert... as long as you don't add too much more weight to it.

I can't give you any specific expertise though.. sorry.

How much does stitch welding add to the weight of a car? Is it really that significant?

no the weight from stitch welding isn't that significant- even if you do the whole car.

No I was making a very general statement about welding and bracing on the chassis. Any additional bracing and strengthening would be a plus in my book.. as long as you don't reach a point where you'd be adding a lot of weight to it.

Nissan employed ASC to strengthen the chassis from the base coupe form. They added a chunk of weight to it with all they did.. plus the heavy rams and pump from the top assembly as well...
