I am looking for feedback from 350z owners who may have owned either a Stillen Supercharger or a Turbonetics Turbo and then switched to the other.
We own a 2003 Nissan 350z and are looking to add either a Supercharger or Turbocharger to the motor as our winter project. I have read and read and read many different forms of information on both induction systems and it seems like you can make a case for which one you want to go with if you research long enough.
I realize the likelihood of having someone respond to this that has experience with both inductions is slim, but, I had to try.
Thank you in advance for anyone's feedback (pro or con) on these 2 induction systems.

ok, how about if you own one or the other. Do you like what you have or would you have gone with the other option?

I have done some research and found that it all depends what you are wanting as far as performance. If you want long term speed then a turbo is the way to go however you will have to worry about more maintenance. If you want a short term burst from the line and less maintenance then the turbo; then you need to go with the supercharger. Personally I dont like the idea of having to keep constant maintenance going plus I am not gonna lie I abuse my Z quite a bit.

Blindskyline33,
So, what do you have on your engine?
I tend to agree with your assessment. And since I have posted this inquiry, I have not found a Turbo setup designed for an automatic transmission. However, I have gotten quite a bit of positive feedback on the Vortech Supercharger setup.
Thanks for your feedback.

Cool. That was the way I was going to go as well. But the more I have talked with people who have owned Stillen's I have commonl been told they do not produce the HP they claim they do, even up to the Stage 4. Plus they produce A LOT of heat. I have not heard a lot or any bad things with the Vortech. Both have a good reputation from a company stand point though. Good luck to the both of us. :) Stay in touch and we can compare our experiences.

you are going to have to maintain your car whether you have a turbo or supercharger on the car, its not like you can just put a supercharger on these cars, set it and forget it. It doesnt work that way unfortunatly. I am not a fan of superchargers because they rob the engine of power. Whatever you do, if you plan on getting out of vacuum and start playing with boost, i recommend you properly prepare the engine internally.

I agree with your opinion to a degree.
I realize and do maintain my vehicles on a regular basis. However, there is a difference between maintaining and having to constantly be working on your car due to modifications. For example, I have built a Chevy 350 with a Holley SystemMax II Kit and built the motor COMPLETELY to Holley's specs and the motor ran great and dynoed 10 HP more than they advertized it to produce. Then another time I built a Chevy 350 with B&M's Megablower, again to their specs and the motor ran flawlessly. Both motors ran excellent without constantly having to be tweaked or maintained except for regular maintenance.
Since I am an automatic transmission fan and while doing this research and contacting numerous Turbo companies, I keep being told that their Turbo setups are designed more for Manual trannies.
Yes, Superchargers take hp to make hp, but, that is a given. I have built enough motors in the past and realize that it never hurts to strengthen factory equipment, but I also believe you can add hp to factory specs, to a moderate level without the need to perform a complete rebuilt. And based on data I have read and gathered, it looks like the 3.5 Nissan motor has no problem with internals under 450 hp. I never have and do not plan on abusing the engine y constantly being in a boost condition, which after talking with Vortech. Should work nicely with the performance I am looking for.
