Ok head - so i did read most of Mechee's post previous to me posting my question. But i stopped a. when they starting fight and b. when he starting getting crazy into the math. Way above my head.

I agree it doesnt seem like a mod that has bang for its buck, but from what i have read about it all there may be some potential gain. Pretty much like an intake, they dont give huge gains but their are some.

Sorry for the use of haters, it strikes me as odd how passionate people are about this current mod.

Note: The following quote only applies to the lightened pulley proposed in the 2.5 version. The 3.5 underdrive pulley is expected to have better returns compared to the 2.5 pulley mod.
MechEE wrote:What's the stock crank pulley diameter? Assuming 8", I ran the numbers for the KJR crank pulley (scale them by (D/8)^2 if it's not 8"), and the gains are the following percentages in each gear for the 5AT (and the equivalent peak power "gain" assuming 250 whp):

1st: 0.810% (2.02 whp)2nd: 0.331% (0.830 whp)3rd: 0.140% (0.350 whp)4th: 0.0646% (0.161 whp)5th: 0.0449% (0.112 whp)

Yeah, FEEL THE POWER baby! Screw the possible minuses of excess engine wear or bearing failure, it's worth it for the 2 whp in 1st alone.

Note that these numbers assume the crank pulley's mass distribution is equivalent to that of a flat disc (most accurate of the simple inertial assumptions). However if you assume all of the mass is concentrated in an infinitesimal ring at the outer crank radius, you will get twice these numbers, and a real crank pulley lies somewhere in between. But two times nothing is still nothing. :P
To save some people from hopping all over the place, I've quoted what I feel is one of the more "straight-to-the-point" posts from the other thread. People are probably passionate about this mod because IMO honestly there are probably quite a few people who do not fully understand this mod, myself included. There are also those who like to share all the information they know about something to the rest of the community (MechEE). This is not a simple mod like say, an air intake where it's simple to the fact that if an engine breathes better, it'll run better, or that cold air has more oxygen than hot air.

By no means are my intentions to undermine Stillen's potential sales, nor is it to discredit their products as I love what Stillen has brought to the Altima community. I just have a mind of curiosity and like to understand things I'm doing to my car, especially since I'm not so mechanically inclined.

I feel this mod could most likely give you gains, but as you can see from the numbers above, it's somewhat different from the ~10 HP to the wheel, which in turn would make a pretty big impact.

It is the underdrive aspect of the 3.5 pulley that interests me most. The gain for the 3.5 stands to be much greater.

I'll wait for stillen to take a 6MT 3.5SE and dyno it to see the result. If it's only 2whp then screw that lol

Sorry I should have stated explicitly that the above post by me was only directed to lightened pulleys, which is the case for the 2.5.

The 3.5 pulley is supposed to generate more gains than the 2.5 pulley because, like Ferguson stated, the 3.5 is an underdrive pulley which affects the size of the pulley in comparison with the stock, while the 2.5 lightened holds the stock diameter size, but is made of material that is lighter.

I'll edit my post to make this more clear.

LOL cool your jets dude, clearly no one else has this yet. I am sure if someone did, they would have already made a thread reviewing it.

That is mexcellent Kyle. question, will there be a special group buy available for this? i would imagine a list of 80+ people that are interested would warrant some kind of group buy?

i'm pretty sure many of the guys on here aren't really trying to rush you or the stillen lot for this item (that would be quite unprofessional lols), but suffice it to say that we anticipate your guy's continued efforts and excellent customer service in bringing top notch products. thanks josh, as well as kyle, for continuing to keep us in the loop. i look forward to purchasing the pulley.

on a side note, how difficult of an install are talking about here? the closest any of my friends and i have gotten to recovering hp loss from parasitic drag was removing the power steering and ac belts and, sometimes, units.

I said it before but no real answer. From what people are saying there is no way of measuring power gains with the pulleys but you should be able to record performance improvement by timing acceleration. I would be interested but I would like to see some numbers that indicate how much time the pulleys will cut of lets say 1/4 mile or 0-100km
