So I'm about to install my Stillen headers, but have become a little worried about the emissions. I'm not sure how strict the emission laws are here in Ontario, but my system so far consists of Kinetix high flow cats and stillen true dual exhaust, so i've already raised my emissions (as evident on my last emissions test). The headers say right on them that they are not 50 state legal, but that could be due to the fact that they also say they're for track use only.

So my question is, will headers put me over the legal limit? Anyone running anything simular?

No clue what yall do up there but, do they have a sniffer to test emisions? Or is it just hooked up to the computer?

If it is just hooked up to the computer then as long as you don't get a CEL, I'd believe you'd be ok. Don't think they would even raise it enough to get a failed sniffer test.

I believe its a sniffer test, and we have to go every 2 years ($30 or $40 bucks each test, can you say cash grab?) so putting them in and swapping them out would become to big of a hassle each time my year comes due if they did fail.

I'm going to ask around at a couple of shops and see what they can tell me on headers and emissions.

Headers shouldn't really change your emissions much at all. The HFC did but thats about it.

Headers are a PITA to install, just so you know. And you'll need a tune to get the full benefit that you want. Without a tune you'll be running rich and lose a little low end...gain high end of course.

If you have between 90 and 150k on your vehicle I would change the plugs, unless there is no indication of any problems with your gas mileage, performance, or exhaust sound.

Running rich without a tune? The ecu won't calibrate it properly with a reset? I've looked into a tune before, but I just thought it would be better to wait till everything is installed before getting one. Any possible damage from not getting a tune?

Oh I know how big of a pain they can be to install as I already attempted it in my garage. My girlfriend basically talked me out of it a quarter of the way through, so I've gone ahead and set up a time with my friend and his lift (plus tools) to finally get the job done.

Thanks for the info and the heads up, plugs will actually be done at the same time/shortly after as i'm just over 100,000 km.

Exhausts typically run the ECU rich on our vehicles. The ECU has "targets" that it will try to achieve and resetting the ECU will help some but the target values don't change. Having your engine tuned is only going to help gain more power and make sure the engine is running optimal. Unless the tuner you use has no idea how to do it you should only have benefits.

Thanks for the info, very good to know. Should a performance shop be able to reconfigure my ecu or should I be shopping around for companies on the internet? Any suggestions?
