In the midst of trying to decide between getting the Nismo catback or Stillen catback, I went to Stillen's site and discovered they're having a sale on the Altima exhaust.

Right now, the V6 Coupe is going for $685.67 with FREE ground shipping. Don't know if this is old news or not (apologies if it is). Their site has been updated since last week, so that's how I figured it might be.

Prices on the other exhausts are here for you lazy surfers like myself:http://www.stillen.com/product...LTIMA

Anyone have any fitment issues with the Stillen exhaust? I'm afraid to go with anything except Nismo because my exhaust setup was a nightmare for my previous car (04 Spec V Sentra) and fitment just wasn't great for the parts I tried out. I just want something to put on my car that I'm not going to have to worry about.

I had several fitment issues with the Stillen but I have since corrected it. I purchased one when they first came out, perhaps thats the reason.

Several of us here had some issues with the mufflers lining up properly or looking off kilter. Adjustments can be made by a professional if necessary.

For the price, the Stillen is a great system. I like the sound very much and the look of the two mufflers as opposed to one.

I just ordered the stillen catback exhaust for my A/C 2.5S which i should have by this weekend and installed. I will try to post some pics and vids for ya when i do actually have everything set up. Buying it now also while it is on sale would be a good idea considering the bumps have been worked out by now i would hope haha. Good luck and good racing man!

Yeah, contrary to tons of the different "production" pictures shown across the internet, the Nismo exhaust is the same basic setup as our stock exhaust as far as layout goes. Obviously the muffler is less restrictive, and my guess is the piping diameter is a bit larger, but I can't find anyone that can either confirm or disprove that notion.

Yeah I know. I'm kinda frustrated about that. I would just assume go Stillen or Greddy if you want a true dual muffler setup. I just don't want to have to tweak an exhaust system that's supposed to be "made for our cars". The damn thing should fit if it's going to fit. Not bolt on, take to exhaust shop, weld, bend, rinse and repeat. I got so frustrated with that with my Sentra and an exhaust setup I had.

say i do decide to get the 1 muffled catback, is there a rear bumper that has just 1 cut for the exhaust pipe? or are we doomed to have an extra opening in the bumper?

I think you misunderstood....

yes the nismo has 1 muffler, but it still has 2 pipes and 2 tips that come off the back off it.......

Exactly. Additionally, the Stillen will have muffler clamps to attach the various pieces together.

Is the Nismo bolted together?

oo. sweeeeeeeeet. i'm sorry for my newbness, but, what it a muffler then. i always thought that the exhaust tip and muffler were synonymous. what's the difference between the single muffler and a dual muffler?

This is a dual muffler setup - The Stillen Catback Exhaust

Other exhausts on the market in this style include the Greddy TiC Catback as well.

The following is a single muffler setup. Note that it still has dual tips... but just a single cannister. Our stock exhaust is setup in this manner, as well as the exhaust pictured, which is a Tanabe Medalion.

Other aftermarket exhausts setup this way include the Borla, the upcoming Greddy Spectrum Elite, and the Nismo.

i see. thank you. other than the fact that it looks different, is there any difference in power/sound?

I've been trying to figure out all that crap for a couple months now. I'm pretty picky with my car stuff, so I've been trying to figure out which exhaust will be the best looking, sounding, and most efficient overall.

I haven't been able to get any concrete info on power gains with any of the aftermarket exhausts on this car. No dyno results... nothing. The only concrete number I've come up with is that the Tanabe provides a weight reduction from the stock exhaust, which helps.

I've also heard that the Tanabe is the one to buy if you go on long highway trips (which I sometimes do) and it won't jar your teeth loose with vibration in the cabin.

I have heard the Borla and Nismo exhausts are pretty loud, while the Stillen and Tanabe rank quieter. So it's a tough call in the muffler style as the Greddy TiC (dual muffler) is considered to be the loudest one you can buy so far unless you go custom. The Artisan is supposed to be pretty loud too, but I'm not familiar with its setup.

Youtube videos suck for conveying the sounds, so the only thing I use them for is to look at how they fit.

most people have the CVT, so it's impossible to get a accurate dyno reading from them. The 2.5's have sentras and so on to fall back on to get a rough idea of power gains at least.

Stillen's prototype coupe came with rubber hangers underneath; Mine and others didn't and these and had to be purchased seperately.

The stock axle-back + pipe weighs about 42lbs (28lbs for axle-back; 14 for stock pipe)

Stillen's setup weighs about 50lbs. It's fitted using the hangers under the vehicle, muffler clamps, and bolted pieces to tie everything together.

Tanabe's axle-back + stock pipe weighs about 40lbs (26lbsfor axle-back;14 for stock pipe). The axle-back bolts to the stock pipe.

As you can see, the weight differences are minimal. The Stillen was louder; hp gains are a wash imo.

What will an axle-back give you? 4-5hp? I dunno. For me, that's not enough when you count in exhaust tone and quality, and you're certainly not going to be able to tell the difference with a butt dyno.

I'm just trying to give the most basic facts, so Xenon can make the best decision for him/her.

i didn't mean anything by my question. i just never heard of the expression "a wash". i agree that the hp gains are not enough.

i agree with you here. when i have the money, i'm going to go with the nismo. imo, the extra money is worth the extra security that it's a nissan product. the sound's deeper too. obviously, the muffler setup preference is all up to you, but honestly, how many people are going to look under your bumper? i don't know, just my opinion. goodluck with your purchase!

mila, I'm waiting on my intake and exhaust until after Carlisle this weekend.

There will be a whole bunch of coupes there, 2.5 and 3.5 with all sorts of intake/exhaust setups. I look forward to hearing each 3.5 setup in person to make a selection of which I want for my 3.5.

I don't trust the "sound" from youtube videos and I can't justify purchasing over 1k worth of mods without hearing them first, especially since HP gains, as discussed earlier are so limited. It's really about sounds + looks.

Sorry, I guess I've been in Texas too long. I guess what I was trying to say is: Weight, hp gains, they're all minimal imo.
