I got a great deal locally on Craigslist for a Stillen cone filter for the Q45 with the 90mm adapter plate and mounting bracket. I put it on the Q yesterday and am enjoying the roar. I'm new to aftermarket intakes but I now understand why y'all enjoy your CAI setups. I'll probably keep it on for the winter and switch back to OEM when it starts warming up. In the meantime.....I'm going to have some fun.

Mike you just need to secure the filter/air intake hose some how to prevent it from moving back and forth.

For a second though I couldn't believe you posted something like this.

But I used to have one on my '91 Q45 and my dad loved it, he said it sounded like a Lamborghini.

Great way to lower filtering efficiency, get hot air into the intake in summer to reduce engine performance, and put intake in a lower pressure area.

Hope he paid you a few hundred to take it.

Yes, it is always educational to iron flat the cone filter element and a used oem rectangle filter and see that the square area of oem is twice + the K&N.Due to extra and deep pleats in the paper.

You can see right thru the K&N when held up to a light.

The dirt is great for rings and dirty oil on bearings.

I just love the flamers .

I have one of these that I put on a long time ago. I even have a spare filter. I only ran it for a while, until I conformed. The roar gets old after a while.

I may put mine out of eBay.

What do you think, should I offer $50 or $100 to the "buyer" to take it off my hands?

By the way, love the strut bar!!!

It takes a while for extra fine and microscopic dirt and sand to wear rings and bearings. Whether you decide to create extra wear to gain 1 [K&N dropin] or 2-3 HP Cone is always up to owner.

Since I like engine longevity I would consider ADDING another paper filter on top of/infront of oem paper filter afterall what's the LOSS of another HP at 6000 rpm.

SUPER Filters of any kind don't really effect HP until you get near and above 4,000 rpm when the engine starts to ingest >300CFM.

The rpm where torque peak occurs is when the largest gulp of air fills each cylinder. As you increase above TPrpm the gulps get smaller due to intake valve and time to fill restrictions.

If you want maximum engine life and top performance, yes! OEM filter changed annually or more frequently is best by far.

If anyone is interested in a swap, I have a complete custom polished 2.25" stainless steel exhaust system with high flow cats, polished stainless Magnaflow mufflers, resonator, and x-pipe. bring your Q with a clean, good factory exhaust on it to Montgomery, AL, and I will swap you for the one on Lola for a couple hundred bucks and a beer. I have access to aa lift, so it should not bee too difficult a swap.

I spent about $1,250.00 on the system. The resonators and x-pipe were about $500.00 and the polished stainless pipes and install were about $400.00 and the polished 3" tips were about $100.00 I also put in new O2 sensors while I was at it. After a few weeks with resonators and an x-muffler, I swapped the resonators for mufflers. Thee was a drone at 1,500 RPM that was maddening.

I did a write-up with pictures when I did it. You might be able to go back and see it.

I also posted some videos up on You Tube.

While you are here, I will make you a great deal on my Stillen cone filter and spare filter....

I like those filters! They have a fully machined velocity stack on the filter adaptor!Very nice! I run a Jim Wolf filter, almost identical to the Stillen, but it has a reverse cone(instead of the chrome piece) for added flow, on my 240sx with a z32 maf. I switched back to stock and noticed a decrease in mid/top end throttle response.

Hearing the roar of the v8 is worth it for me. It scares the crap out of the course workers at Autocross.

If anyone wants to sell their Stillen (preferably) Jim Wolf, filter set, let me know asap! I'm on the market for one!
