Stillen cold air intake and warranty

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I'm debating on whether to install a Stillen cold air intake. Does anyone know if this would void my warranty? If so, that solves that dilemma for the next 3.5 year (and my wife will be happy).

Thanks!

I have installed the Stillen CAI and it sounds great. Feels like there is more power. When I go to the dealer for service I do put the OEM system back on.It is easy to do. It takes only 1/2 hour to change it over.

That is certainly one possibility, and I had considered it.

On another note, what does it sound like? Is the sound you are referring to more an intake noise, or more exhaust related?

Thanks!

Based on Stillen's dyno result (With the long tube G2 kit)... an intake system cost nearly $500 and adds 5whp is probably not worth it.The dyno is also based on a G35 Sedan which is using a less restrictive exhaust system and different ECU than the EX.My guess is a 2~3whp gain for the G2 kit and 0~1whp gain for the short tube G1 kit...

I have spoke to many Nissan/Infiniti tuners and turned out an aftermarket intake might even lower power based on how our ECU is setup.

My car is going to dyno next week to see what kind of power a stock EX35 RWD make.

After that I will install K&N Drop-In filters ($120) and run it on the dyno again. I am expecting 0~1whp gain.

I will keep you guys posted.

Here are the pictures of Stillen Generation 2 Long Tube Dual Intake Kit.I have purchased them directly from Stillen for $468.72.So far I'm happy with the performance and the sound.

Auto manuf are getting more strict regarding bolt-on performance parts. As mentioned by others, I'd remove it since it's easy if you take it in.

Legally though, if something went wrong with your car, they need to prove the non-OEM part caused the problem before they can refuse you any kind of warranty repair.

If you want to get true benefit from the intake... you need headers and a performance exhaust. The EX's headers and exhaust are more restrictive than the Gs, hence the quieter sound stock.

You need to upload them to some other site (e.g. any pic hosting server) and link to them using the "Insert Image" button.

Hey Ted ... you need to put the URL to your picture between the "IMG" tags. That is, if my picture is uploaded to a server and accessible at "http://myserver.mydomain.com/MyEX35.jpg" I would place that string (without the quotation marks) between the "IMG" tags.

+1, I would never pay $500 for 5 more HP. Are you crazy or something.

Just put in premium fuel and use the K&N filters. That will be close to your 5 more HP.

Hey Ted!

I fixed it for you - had to put in proper "[IMG]" tags and change the URL to the pic (NOT the logon page). You need to embed each pic separately.

To check out what had to be entered, click the "Edit" button near the top-right, then have a look at the text. If you have any questions, just ask!

A dealer cannot void your warranty simply because you changed something in your car. If a problem arises they may attempt to blame the aftermarket part, but they have to prove it before they attempt to void your warranty.

I beg to differ, it depends on the part. Not for an air Intake, a warranty will not be voided, however for a larger water pump, yes. I have seen all sort of stuff. Someone actually added a double alternator to their car and it blew out the SRS unit. I have also seen someone add HID lights with a kit and it shorted out the alternator and entire instrumental panel. That was a $5,000 fix, that voided the warranty.I have many examples of this kind of stuff.

However, an air intake is not a moving part or something that ties into the electrical system, so you are set.

I always make this mod to all my new cars and I never have an issue with the dealer.

Hope this helps.

That's exactly what I said.

I bet the dealer would void your warranty if you drove your car through a body of water deep enough to have some water suck up through the cold air intake and damage the engine.

Hey Ted,

Don't think you're slow ... anything anyone knows, they didn't know at some point, and had to learn (at least once)! Please do your best to pay attention to the precise details of what I'm telling you.

You just need to click "Edit" on your post of May 20th because I fixed it (as I said previously), and you'll see EXACTLY what must be entered.

To describe it, you need the opening tag "" ... all of the foregoing without quotation marks, of course.

Below is the rendering of the most recent pic you were trying to link. BTW, the URL you used wasn't correct. It has to be a URL that links directly to the pic (not the SnapFish login page). Right-click and select Properties on the picture below to see the URL I used.
