Awesome! Is it a lot louder than stock now and is there any drone on the inside? I'm going to do the same setup but with all 2.5" piping and magna flow mufflersBig_Tone wrote:Thanks! I'll see what I can do for video clips. My son has a Go Pro, but not external mic. I'll see how that sounds and I'll also try it with my iPhone. The first set of cats are still there, but I removed the resonator and added an x-pipe.
This setup is definitely louder than stock, but not as loud as straight pipes with the OEM mufflers. I don't know if it's the x-pipe or sport mufflers, but this setup has more bass, but it's not as loud. As far as drone, I'm new to all of this, so I can't say if I have it or not lol. I did a little research and from what I read drone is a vibrating sound. If that's correct, then no I don't. I have noticed when I'm cruising around 30 MPH or so (not accelerating at all) that the muffler is la bit louder, but not by much.walt1227 wrote:Awesome! Those are the second set of cats. The first set bolts directly on the exhaust manifolds and can't be seen from the picture Tone had posted. If you delete the second set of cats, it will be louder.walt1227 wrote: Tone, that looks nice man. When you get a chance please make some video clips of it idling, revs, and driving. Did you get rid of the cats or are they still on the car. I see something that looks like cats up to the front but not sure if those are the first set that we can't remove or the second set we can remove. Never seen under the car before.
Yes the sport mufflers have a deeper tone, especially with the second set of cats deleted. Lower RPM will have a rumble inside the car, not drone. You really hear it when you take off or floor it. It WILL turn some heads LOL.Big_Tone wrote:This setup is definitely louder than stock, but not as loud as straight pipes with the OEM mufflers. Ok that makes sense. That's exactly what I'm hearing. Thanks for the info on this! I went with this setup based on your input.armybrat wrote:Yes the sport mufflers have a deeper tone, especially with the second set of cats deleted. Lol. Not sure if turning heads is what I want especially how I like to take off at stop lights. I just want it a little louder than stock but not anywhere near sports car loud.armybrat wrote:Yes the sport mufflers have a deeper tone, especially with the second set of cats deleted. You may turn a head or two if you floor it from a stop light, but I wouldn't say it's sports car loud.walt1227 wrote:Lol. Yep drive it around for a while, see how you like it. The sport mufflers take about 400 miles to break in. If you want louder, simply delete the post cats.Big_Tone wrote:Ok that makes sense. That's exactly what I'm hearing. Thanks for the info on this! I went with this setup based on your input.
You'll want to leave that second set of cats on then. You can always delete them later if you change your mind. The best way to really gauge the sound is to have someone drive your car and you either follow them in another car or just stand behind and physically listen to how it sounds when taking off. Videos don't seem to capture the full effect of the sound signature, IMHO.walt1227 wrote:Lol. Not sure if turning heads is what I want especially how I like to take off at stop lights. I think the sound is perfect. Nice low growl. The straight pipes with OEM mufflers was too loud and my wife complained lol. Would deleting the post cats add any power? Would it create any emission test or check engine issues?armybrat wrote:Yep drive it around for a while, see how you like it. The sport mufflers take about 400 miles to break in. Great, glad you like it. Yeah removing the post cats will add a little power (and more sound); just not noticeable power without a custom tune to take advantage of the increase flow. As a matter of fact, performance-wise I really can't tell much difference between the 2" X-pipe and the 2-1/2" X-pipe with the stock tune. This is where the custom tune comes into play. As far as emissions, mine has no CEL's. The A/F sensors mount on the exhaust manifold/cat assemblies. The O2 sensors mount between the exhaust manifold/cat assemblies and the front Y-pipe tube assembly/post cats (one unit). Since my exhaust was a post cat delete, it had the ports welded in for the O2 sensors in the same spots where the original Y-pipe was bolted to the exhaust manifold/cat assemblies.Big_Tone wrote:I think the sound is perfect. Nice! I'm seriously considering removing the post cats, but I don't have the first clue regarding getting my car tuned and I'm a little concerned it'll be too loud. And regarding the HPS tubes, I'm definitely pleased. Especially for $200.
True. I can definitely say I don't think it's too loud right now. It's perfect in my opinion. Before when I had the straight pipes and stock mufflers my wife complained and said she thought it was too loud. With the x-pipe and sport mufflers the sound is a lot lower and not nearly as loud. When you punch it, you'll hear it, though.walt1227 wrote:Tone that is my concern to making it too loud by removing those second set of cats. I know from many years of experience that once you remove cats things get a lot louder. This car should not be overly loud.
