Guys - I'm buying a used Stillen cat-back and I'm new to this. It has had the resonators cut and re-welded for the previous owner's testing purposes. The re-weld looks like a decent job. Also the mid-pipe is Gen 1 and axle-back is Gen 2. I'm paying about $500 including shipping. The midpipe has been treated with high-temp ceramic paint. Owner says it works perfectly with nice sound.

I think this is a good deal but want to make sure the cut / re-weld and mixing Gen 1 & Gen 2 parts is not a big deal. What do you think? And thanks in advance.

Welcome!

$500 bucks seems like a great deal if the exhaust is in GREAT shape!

I love my Stillen coupled with some other bolt on MODS it sounds beeeeautiful!

Tough to give you an informed opinion on the welds as we can't really see it. Do you know a local mechanic that can inspect it with you? Now I'm no expert on the mid pipe... so I'll wait for a tech to chime in and advise you whther the 2 different Gens can "jive" together without any real complications down the road.

Again, welcome to your new home!

if it looks good and you have faith in the seller, go for it! I know that the gen 2 is quieter than the gen 1, but thats it. I assume they are completely compatible since they have to go on the same car. Then again, the rear mount on the second series G35 is a little different. Everything else is the same tho...

Thanks guys and sorry to have jumped in with no introduction. I've been reading up on here but haven't posted yet. I just bought my 2005 G35 with only 8,500 miles on it...company lease return or something. It is the nicest car I've ever owned. Talk to all of you soon.

It sounds like a great deal. The heat coating is expensive. The only thing I would be worried about is the welds, but for someone that has it heat coated they know what they are doing and the welds are probably just fine.
