First, let me state that I have the utmost respect for STillen and their abilities. I'm sure their expertise is far beyond my understanding. However, I'm always interested when folks talk about getting more power out of the GT-R.

While at the superautobacs meet, there was an R35 owner there that spoke of another company that attempted to replace Nissan's current turbo setup with a custom setup, and they lost a considerable amount of power in the process. The guy stated that it was close to impossible for aftermarket companies to improve upon Nissan's tuning of the GT-R.

I AM NOT CLAIMING THIS TO BE TRUE... I'm only repeating what this R35 owner stated at the meet. Kyle, Josh, please clarify/explain if there is any truth to what that driver stated! Thanks!

I can't begin to validate someone else's statements.. but I can tell you there is absolutely no problem in gaining additional horsepower from the GT-R, in fact the horsepower number is as simple as how much $$ and time do you want to throw at it?

Simply swapping the rear exhaust and rear section with cats and a COBB tuner will net you an additional ~60hp.. pop 103 octane in it and that number can jump 20hp, and that's with doing relatively nothing.

We've been in talks with some companies doing turbo upgrades putting down a consistant mid-600hp number, and feel 800 is easy with tuning on the stock block.

Kyle would be able to speak more intelligently on the GT-R, I'm a byproduct on what I see and hear here as they are discussing the project car. I don't know what final setup we will do for the Targa rally, but it will be a balance of all things, lightening, suspension, power, etc.

There is ALOT of room to gain power on the GT-R. The GT-R is an amazing car from the factory and NISSAN did a phenomonal job of building it and building it so affordably. It is truly incredible. However nothing is above improvement. If that were true than NISSAN would not have an optional Spec-V model that adds more power with the same turbo's and exhaust...just tuning.

I have driven our race car in stock form and in its modified state with exhaust and COBB tuner. I can tell you that this car literally LEAPS off the ground with the exhaust and tuner. It is absolutely incredible. When I drove the car when it was stock I was impressed but I wasn't blown away by its performance. I didn't get out and think "wow, what a ride." When I drove it a few months ago with the exhaust and tuner installed I got out of the car and thought "HOLY s*** I NEED TO CHANGE MY SHORTS!!!"

thanks for the clarification guys... I'm not a GT-R owner, and have never even driven one, and I did not have the correct information at the time to just tell the dude he was full of s*it!

It's actually not possible to just bolt on bigger turbo's on the GTR. The GTR turbo's are integrated into the exhaust manifold. There are ways to improve the turbo's and definitely swap out parts but at this point no one has fabricated a new exhaust manifold and run bigger turbo's yet.
