What's up people,
I have a 07 35X with a Stillen catback and an Injen cai. Love the sound and all that, but I have a question. Perhaps it's just in my head, but I feel like I have lost a bit of mid-power. The low end power is def there. The highend is also there. It's that mid level power that gives me the issue. The intake makes you sound like you're really moving, but in reality you're just getting up. The speed.
My question is has anyone else experienced this before or anything similar ? Now keep in mind, I haven't tuned it yet and will do so in the spring. But I'm just curious for input. Thanks

That makes sense. The same applies with motorcycles, you free up the air flow and you have less mid range power-torque. The only way around that is to increase the fuel in other words richen the fuel and lean out the air. My race bikes always suffer this type of issue when ever I have to change the exhaust system. Therefore I always playing with the right air to fuel mixture to get the optimal performance. When the engine is breathing better you need to feed it more fuel to get back to the same feeling (dyno results) as you would have had before the the bigger pipes. These engines were designed to work with the oem air and out flows. You may need to add a spacer to your throttle body to solve the problem.

Again, my experience is related to racing motorcycle. The oem design is perfect for normal use bikes (cars), I recommend that you find a dyno and have them base line it and help you tune it. A few guys on the site have used an uprev tuning system (I think that is what it is called) results have been mixed mind you.

I guess that is more than 2 cents worth.

There have been complaints when combining cai with exhaust and no tune. The ecu cant compensate for the extra flow and just goes more towards the safe side of fuel delivery. There's an old thread with someone dyno ing the difference of having an ex, cai and stock and when combined it was worse than stock power. There was an increase when only one part was installed at a time. Keep in mind the test was done with a non tuned motor. Some people have tuned their car and had both cai and exhaust only thing is there wasn't a dyno sheet to prove if it was worth having the cai installed. Only advice to give you is get it dyno tuned with UpRev, if you can find a tuner for the X version M in your area. Last resort would be to get the e tunes from them.

Oh I already went to the place out here by me. I have to go back so they can read the ECU and send it to UpRev to get the crack for it. Once they do, I will be getting my tune and Dyno :rotflmao :rotflmao

I agree with the above....once you get a tune, your car will run a lot better...also you may want to think about adding the plenum spacer -- it'll provide 'more' room for the incoming air from your CAI. some people like the CAI and some people don't.... I got great results by just having the K&N drop in along with the Z tube for my "intake" set up. the other supporting mods that I have really blended well together...

the Z tube is basically an intake tube that the 350Z's commonly use. It's free flowing and I think it's slightly larger than the stock intake tube on M35's and G's

here's some old pix of when I put my Z tube in -- compared to stock it's night and day
