Well after trying the thermostat with two that I have and putting a new one in, no luck. I took the thermpstat out and water flows thru it fine. However I didnt leave it running long enough to see if it would overheat and decided to kill the car before it got to warm and went to buy a new thermostat. still didnt work. There seems to be no water in the oil and no oil in the water but under the valve cover where the timing chain sits under it has the sign of a bad head gasket. There is milky water and oil mixed together but when you look at the head there is no water in the oil and the oil seems fine. Its just on the valve cover itself, like its just moisture. also when I took the hose off of the valve cover the one that goes to the canister dripped a little water out. The heater doesnt work but there is no water in the floor board. No leaks at all in or out. just cool air. The car doesnt make any metal grinding noises when the gauge is high. Normally there would be engine noise if there was water in the oil. It runs about ten minutes before the needle creeps up past the middle. I turn the car off and I can actualy take the rad. cap off and the water is still cool. the motor is warm not hot and the upper rad house is semi warm and the lower is cool. any other ideas like the water temp sending unit, or the thermostat gauge. The water doesn't even boil.

Try flushing your entire system.. hook up a garden hose somewhere in your radiator or something... see if there is something in your system blocking the coolant flow.

Quote »Normally there would be engine noise if there was water in the oil. [/quote] That is not even close to always being true. I have seen way to many that still ran good and quiet and the heads were bad. The milky stuff under the valve cover is a very, very bad sign. Every thing is pointing to head gasket. You've got one other shot though, is this a SR that you just swapped in? If so, the impeller blades may have been rusted off. It won't make any noise either. You would just have to pull it and see. About the only other way that you could be getting water in your oil is from a leak in the front cover. It really sounds like the head gasket though.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not, but did you switch the temp sending unit to the stock one from your KA? When I did my swap, i was getting high temps on the gauge too, and the rad was cool, engine was warm, just turned out to be i left the SR sending unit in....

I think in his other thread he said that he had checked the gauge and sending unit etc.(or was that someone else?)

I'm using my SR sending unit, with no problems. The only sensors I have off my KA are on the transmission. Reverse and Neutral positioning sensors.

Ya I switched it out while putting the motor back together. Yellow your right Iv'e seen cars with bad head gaskets that sound normal it was just an idea I was throwing out. But again when I took the thermostat out the water was flowing pretty good through the radiator. Iv'e bought a new temp send unit and temp gauge sensor for kicks. Im probably just gonna go ahead and pull the head and upgrade anyways. But I didnt want to do it now.

YOUR CARS NOT OVERHEATING. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST INSTALLED MY MOTOR. TRY REPLACING THE WATER TEMP SONSOR WITH A NEW 95 SER SENSOR. THIS SHOULD WORK FINE.

See thats the thing I used the same one I had on my first det motor. I went ahead and bought another one. By the way courtesy nissan was out of the 96 unit so I bought a 93 unit. I haven't tried it yet so any input would help. It only takes five minutes or so to swap out and if it doesn't work than back to courtesy I go. Thanks

All of the gauge stuff still won't change the fact that water has somehow found its way into your motor.
