allright guys. i replaced my radiator on my 92 coupe, the water pump, the radiator hoses, and the cap. the car continued to overheat, so the gauge said. then I said it must be the head, or the gasket. so I replaced it, didnt even look bad. but replaced it. got the head pressure tested and everything was fine. started the car up and it still overheated, so the gauge said. finally I bought both temp sensors, and it read the same. the wierd thing is after 10 minutes of driving or so, the coolant system doesnt build much pressure. I can take the rad. cap off the rad. when running for a while and i wont blow coolant all over me.

problem #2 is you can hear the valve ticking loud now. I dont understand.\

problem #3 the car idles roughly....

any thoughts?

There is probably air in the coolant system. The 240SX coolant system is notorious for forming air pockets.

Your best bet may be to drain down the coolant and start all over again with the filling of the coolant.

Here's how I do it:1 - drain coolant2 - open the bleeder screw3 - optionally jacking up front of car helps to purge air pockets4 - fill system until coolant starts coming out the bleeder hole5 - close bleeder screw (not too tight; screw is easy to break off)6 - continue filling until coolant is at the bottom of the filler neck7 - do not put cap on the radiator8 - start motor; as coolant starts to warm up, you may see a few air bubbles9 - squeeze the hoses by hand to free up possible air pockets10 - put cap on radiator

i thought the reason the hot rad coolant spills everywhere is because at a hotter state.. its in an expanded state thus opening the cap causes it to escape ("explode" out)

thanks, the cars gauge still continues to rise. I have literaly done everything. im starting to believe that the gauge may be off? do the digital gauge clusters on s13s have a rep for going bad?

Don't let your guard down just yet. If your coolant system isn't building up pressure, you DO have a problem. Have it pressure tested to make sure you don't have a tiny leak somewhere. What are you using in the way of coolant? 50/50 mix, 70/30, pure water, etc...

the digital cluster seems to read a bit hotter on my coupe than it doesn on my hatch with an analog cluster.

im not sure if there are differences how they read the temp, though.
