fastpathy35 ...... did you ever figure out more about this? i've often wondered something similar with an older 01 and maybe a little bit now with an 04 i'm driving. They both seemed to drive fine, however the 01 w/ 160K miles did show a bit of a problem where it seemed the revs wouldn't drop down to a normal range once it got into 4th gear. Mostly on real cold days, but even after being on the highway for awhile it seemed to stay a tad on the higher side. My mechanic suggested the solenoid packs as well, but I ended up unloading it for the 04. Funny thing is this 04 w/ 110000 miles, seems to rev about 300-400 RPM higher than the 01 when doing the same drive on the highway. At 75mph it wants to rev at 3000rpm, my 01 would have been at about 2500 or less. Both were 4WD, and the scenario played out regardless if they were driven in 2WD or AWD. The 04 suffers from about a 30miles per tank deficit now compared to the 01.

Anyone know if there were significant tranmission changes from 01 to 04? And yes, my 01 had the 3.5 in case anyone wonders. I guess early 01 might have had a 3.3?

No 2001 Pathfinders had the 3.3 engine. There were no significant transmission changes between 01 and 04, except some lower valve body (IIRC) and TCM revisions which solved shift flare issues.

Is the transmission fluid level and condition OK?

I never solved the problem. They sent me another transmission that I was going to try before I started buying other parts, but I was rear-ended just a couple days after the transmission came in so, I never had a chance to switch it out. I know everything was flushed, no crud in either pans, none of the lines, and non in the cooler. Fluid looked fine in the original, it looked perfect in the new one. Debris stuck to the magnet was very minimal. Every gear would hold lock and pull with out slipping as long as it was in gear and not in between gears. Temperature didn't change, amount of throttle didn't change...I cleaned the MAF sensor, and changed the fuel filter, no change. So I have a transmission on a pallet just hanging out if anyone needs one. Haha.

I have an 04 and it flares when it first starts out. Takes a few miles of Driving then fine. It happens in 2 to 3. Auto trans. The tach will flare up to 3, then I just take my foot off and it will shift in easy, once driven about ten minutes it is fine. Had it to a transmission shop and he felt it, he said he would just baby it when first starting out, and he thought it would be fine. I noticed quite a few having the same issue. A tech at Nissan called the tech line, becauae like you no codes and tech line said a valve body, but others with this issue are still driving two years later with no other issues and some say they had this from new. I have omly had the truck since late January. One owner car, excellent car fax, mint and well maintained. Just not sure.
