So Ive been working on my 240 off and on for about a year now and still cant get it started. I was just having issues with spark. So I removed the aftermarket alarm wiring out and sent the motor harness to get looked over by wiring specialties. Received the harness and plugged everything up. Went to turn over and only got clicks. Decided that the motor was not grounded so we attached a temp ground from the block to the chassis. Get the motor to turn over now but the ground wire gets hot and starts smoking instantly......what gives??

What size is this wire that you ran? If it's anything less than 8 gauge or so, I wouldn't expect it to work.

I was also thing the wire may be a little small Probably 10gauge. But wouldn't a smoking/hot ground be caused by stray power?? The starter barely turns over now. As if its not getting enough power. Im reading 11.2 at the battery connection.

Well you should have 12.6 at your battery connection ideally, but im assuming your batteryy was drawn down from excessive cranking. Anyway did you hook up that tiny ground on the lower harness that i believe goes on the back of the alternator. Lot of people forget about it including me. If thats all good run a thicker wire as a ground and make sure all your connections are tight. If it still smokes do a voltage drop the power side and ground side of the circuit to find excessive resistance. Maybe ur starter motor windings have excessive resistance?
