....But nothing big, I hope. Have we polled or tracked oil consumption.

have we established a rate per 3k or 2k or "gulp" 1500 miles.

I'm not worried yet but it has 35k on it and is still new to me. I haven't seen smoke, nor smelled it, or seen it on the engine or ground, but in 1500 miles I have used just over half a quart.

In my old BMW 535 and 528 and..... well BMWs it was pretty normal to used just under or around a quart over 3200-3500 miles just in time for a change and check after hard driving and some track days.

This lovely monster however has not been driven hard (well there was that mustang, and the day I turned the traction control off while playing with the headlight aim ). infact there has only been one highway climb (gingerly) to 120 or so. Should I be nervouse? still under warranty should I go in? or am I being another nube who is still on the low end of the learning curve.

What oil do you use? I would recommend a 0W40 or 5W40 full synthetic.I would bring it in and have it on paper as a concern of yours. That is the first step. Unfortunately they are not likely to do anything unless your using 1qt per 1-1.5K miles. But having Nissan know that your concerned already is a big plus in your favor.Good luck

I too am having oil consumption issues. When i took my car in for it's 30K mile service i mentioned it to them so they are doing an oil consumption test. I have to bring it in every 1k miles for the next 2k miles. They will make a decision after that.

It would be cool to get a new engine.

Mine was burning a quart every 1K. I bought the car with 36K on it and at 38K I took it in for a consumption test. They did the consumption test which showed I was losing oil and then they did a leakdown test which got me a brand spanking new motor less than a week later. I now have 44K on her (about 4K on the new motor) and I do not burn a drop on this new one!

Thanks all,

I will head to the stealer tomorrow and have it documented. Glad to see that I'm not alone and that I don't have to give up hope.

I truely love this car.

Whe i first got the car from the stearship i noticed the oil was burning...i had got 2 free oil changes from them....i changed it with synthetic and never had a problem...i think it was the cheap cheap oil they were using...if they were using the right weight at all?? I think with an engine of this caliber you should use top quality oil anyway!! I think the cheap stuff was just burning due to my rough driving. But ever since then at 65k never had a problem

So what wieght are you running? I was getting ready to do a fluid change (old habit for "new" cars) when I started monitoring the consumption.

For most people, the stock weight of 5W-30 will be fine. In your area, you could increase this to 5W-40 or 10W-30 or even 10W-40 (in summer) without any problems.

I use (and like) the Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40. With this oil, you never have to worry about the season for most conditions here in the US.

Yet again, Thank you

Bad oil out, good oil in Saturday, and start the log book again.
