Whats up guys.

Ive just got a quick question. When I purchased my 98 240, it already had an AEM intake on it. I know how intakes work..blah blah blah, but theres a small hose connected to the tube that I dont know about. I know the crankcase breather hose is connected to the intake, but whats the really small hose thats sort of on the bottom side of the intake? Runs back toward the alternator.

Also, on a side note.....I had to repair (temporarily fixed) the rubber connector that comes from the hose to the intake itself. (two different sizes on each end, aka reducer) The hose was just dangling there, thats how I noticed a problem. I would have never even noticed the small hose was there until I saw it disconnected. Is there any way I can order a new one, or do hardware stores/automotive stores carry stuff like that? It was severly dry cracked and came loose because of that.

Thanks for any help,Brad

It's just a silicone hose piece, AutoZone usually has universal sizes and lengths of those, if it concerns you you can put that on and hose clamp each end down.

Not quite sure, it maybe a thing for OBDII cars, my S13 doesn't seem to have it.

Just a wild guess, but the hose might connect to an AIV system. The AIV is a small box near the strut tower on the exhaust side of your engine. I believe its purpose was to make the car run lean at idle in order to make the cat work more efficiently. It's an emissions device, and AFAIK has no performance benefits at all.

Nissan eventually ditched the system, so you might not have one. Some 240's have 'em, some don't.

Ah, my mistake. I read his message way too quickly. I missed the part where he said it ran back towards the alternator. I also missed the bit where he said he had a '98.

Obviously it's time for me to get some sleep!

So its for the EGR, huh? I had somebody tell me it was a vacuum hose.

I know I may sound like a twit, but these imports have too many friggin hoses. LOL The CAI I had on my Cavalier didn't have any of this mess.

I know with the AEM intake, theres 3 nipples for hoses. Theres two bigger ones on top (crankcase etc...), but then theres one on the left side of the tube sorta on the side/bottom of the tube with a small hose connected to it. I just couldnt figure out what it was.

Not a problem, and I was glad to reply... IIRC it goes to the solenoid, but I know its EGR related... I could check the fsm / car for exacts but...

At least you didnt ask what engine would be best to connect that hose too... :)

edit: and it doesnt have to have that many hoses ya know. Here is a true work of art in light weight and cluster f*** removal CLICK ME ... Its russ's car or also known as r240na when hes on here which isnt often anymore hehe. Simply amazing hehe

Yep. That tube on the bottom and to the side of the intake goes to some little plastic box on the radiator fan shroud, I have NO IDEA why, I removed mine and plugged the hole when I went to an electric fan setup. It caused no problems, drop in gas mileage, or emissions results. I sugguest you do the same.

TR: Once again he doesnt have that either... hehe

Is another resonator from what I can tell, and only on s13's as well. :)
