Anyone know a way to tell 8.6 KAE pistons from 9.2 KAE pistons visually with rods attatched? I cant find anything in regards to a part number on them. They are flattops.

Thats what I thought too, but daunttless thought that some were dished and some flattops...anyone else know? I tried to calculate the compression but i dont know the KADE head chamber volume. I cant put these things in and expect to not blow my engine if they are the 11.6:1 someone has to know for sure

Come on, I cant believe noone knows for sure. All of you guys who have rebuilt your late 89 and 90 KAE were your pistons dished or not? and anyone who has rebuilt an early 89 were your pistons flattops?

I'm 99% sure the 9:1 pistons are flat tops. The dish in the 8.6:1 is very shallow. They changed from 9.1:1 to 8.6:1 during the 89 model year.

For my 89 pistons, which I recently replaced, the 8.6:1 pistons are noticably different from the 9:1. The 9:1 has a slight dip in, the 8.6:1 is much more noticable.

gotta dispute.

i've taken apart two early SOHCs and they are flat. (actually, they have an ever so slight dome, but so as not to confuse anyone...they are flat). the late 89-90 pistons have the dish.

there is a picture of the 9.1 pistons in the nisssan motorsports catalog. there is no dish. if you run your finger across the top of it, you'll notice a very slight lip. the center of the piston is actually higher than the outside.

I meant lip, but that word didnt come to mind. Lip, slight dip, sorta the same thing :D
