some of you may have read and participated in my previous thread, but anyhow here is another one with which i am still having the same issue. today, i went and bought an aftermarket tach and same thing-no reading at all-i hooke it up to the yello/red wire from the ecu. now my questions are:

is there any other wire that i can hook into to get my tach working?

does this mean there is something going on with my ecu?

jusst a little background-i have no power at the yellow/red wire anywhere, i have continuity amongst the entire wire(ecu to dash, ecu to harness), and the ecu harness bolt is screwed in tight and completely with no bent pins.

thanks people

The ecu gets the tach signal from the CAS I believe. I can't download the fsm for a jdm s13 for some reason so I can't really narrow down the problem any more than that. I not sure but I think you can get the signal directly from one of the cas wires, don't know if it'll be calibrated though.

I'm probly wrong about tapping into the cas b/c its a wave forming circuit and the ecu then takes the info and converts it to a tach signal.

I'm having the same problem. I think the cas is pin 30. Its a white wire.. But the thing with that is it only reads 180 degrees... so with mine it reads good at an idle. But won't read past 3000 rpms...so can't hook it to the cas. I think my tach signal is messed up in the ecu... so idk. Try another ecu maybe

well i also was reading on some other forumns. people say you need the auto meter tach adaptor... its only like 60 bucks. but i dont get how the SAFC works through the yellow/ red wire but a monster tach doesnt. maybe diff calibrations? idk /...so ima try the adaptor out once i get more money.. but yeah have the person tuning your ecu to take a look
