Still confused about 5 lug conversion.

After reading through all the threads on the five lug conversion on the s13 I am still confused. I understand that you can use an s14 hubs and front spindle or s14 front spindle and hubs with 300zx rear hubs. First of all what I am confused about is that if you are only using the hubs the why would you need a different type of shock for the 300zx conversion on the back, and since thats the case will you need new shocks with the s14 hubs on the rear. Second: If I use the s14 hubs on the rear will I be able to use the stock cliper with a s14 rotor? I know that the s13 ball joint does not work the s14 spindle and you will have to press in aftermarket balljoints, but is there any alternative to this? If anyone could help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Your question darts from one angle to another but I'm gonna try to answer it.

IN THE REAR: All you have to get is the hubs, they mount onto the S13 spindle. You retain the stock S13 suspension.

You'd only need a new shock if you changed out the actual suspension knuckle w/ the hubs. This is due to the difference in mounting and alignment locations.

IN THE FRONT:AFAIK, you'll need the S14 spindle, lower ball joint, strut bolts, and the hub.

You'll need to bore out the struts in order to fit the S14 strut bolts.

The ball joint is different because it's what effectively holds onto the lower portion of the spindle.

The taper on the S14 ball joint is different from the taper on the S13 ball joint.

One thing I want to clarify about the rear hub is do you need S14 rear hubs or Z32 rear hubs if you retain the S13 knuckle?
