I have read all of the FAQ's and all of that stuff, but I'm still a little lost...My original intentions were to buy a S14 and do the LS1/T-56 swap since I know quite a bit about those motors. But now I'm starting to think I should try something different to me and go with one of these RB motors. I've narrowed it down to either the RB25 and the RB26, but what I can't understand is what justifies the vast difference in cost between the two? At first glance I was all for the RB26...I mean who doesn't want the best of the best? But after looking at the two motors, I don't really understand what exactly it is that makes this motor SOOO much better than the 25 that gives me reason to spend that much more money. So really...is there any reason that I should fork out the extra dough or would I be more than happy with the 25? 500 HP at the crank is probably about the most I could want with a car as light an nimble as this.

(Obviously, I know nothing of these motors...I'm a V8 guy. I've actually never owned anything with a turbo on it--hence my reason for trying something new)

The car is going to be used for everyday driving and the ever-so-often mountain cruise.

Thanks!-Tyler

500bhp or ~450whp is easily done in a 25, save the coin.

Just for my own knowledge, what's the limit for the 25's without pushing it (reliable everyday power) and not changing the internals?

the aussies seem to think that 500whp is the limit on these motors, depends on how well you are at keeping detonation down and not cramming loads of boost down their throats.300whp is definatley doable and quite reliable...

You will be fine with a 25 stock internals. 26s get there reputation because it comes out of a "GTR". If you ask me, a 25 is a stronger block than a "stock" rb26 block. I had the two side by side. The 25 head is hyd. where as the 26 is solid.

I know of an rb25 that makes way over that at 1.8bar(26psi) and knock was 8 on the PFC. The engine is stock with a Tomei 1.2mm head gasket. I can explain if anybody is intrested.

Thanks for all the info guys!

So would it be safe to say that I could drive the car everyday with ~400rwhp? Or am I putting my hopes up too high? Also how well do these motors respond to modifications? I come from the LS1 world and with just a simple cam swap I was looking at 400+ to the wheels. What must be done to the motors to get some good power out of them?

This conversion is looking more and more obtainable...

If the motor is used go through and inspect the bottom end, I would how ever use a new oil pump, water pump timming belt kit, head gasket. The stock cams are good for over 500hp. For starters you need injectors, computer, FMIC, z32MAF(depending on what computer used), clutch, turbine kit, fuel pump,FPR, etc...

What do you mean by "computer"? Can you not use the same ECU or do you just mean it will need to be tuned? Sorry for what seems to be stupid questions...I really know absolutely nothing about turbo motors.

i just had mine dynoed at 428hp last weekend, through my experience its all about the tune and how well you treat your car.
