Stiff steering wheel

2010 m35..I was driving the other night and all of a sudden the steering wheel got stiff. Then the car would not accelerate no matter how much I pushed on the gas. Good thing I wasn't far from hm. Parked and now the car wont start. Lights and radio comes on.
Oo, thought it might've been the battery. Took it to autozone, said it was bad. So I got another. Put it in and still wouldn't start.

Some details would help, but that sounds like a bad power or ground connection. Does it try to crank? Any clicks or chattering? If it does try, do the dash lights dim out? If it doesn't try, is the security lamp (red key) lit when you push the button to "on"?

Turns out it was the serpentine belt popped. After I installed a new one it still wouldn't start. Disconnect the battery and pulled and check all the fuses. Reconnect the battery and are a couple tries it started up.
Since I was driving when it popped, would it mess with the timing?
