Stiff Steering

Got a '94 Infiniti Q45. Steering is really stiff and requires some muscle for left turns, right turns, parking and pulling out of parking lots.

Is there a checklist of things to go down to see what's going on?

I know this sounds off but did you run AT-CHECK, I say that because there is a sensor on the transmission that is responsible for giving your speedometer, power steering computer and anything else that requires the speed of the vehicle to run correctly?

Also what is the smell and look of the power steering fluid?

How are the dust boots on the steering rack are they cracked or open at all even a little?

Does it do this all the time?

Do you have any service history, receipts or Carfax?

Are the power steering lines leaking?

Do you hear a whining noise as you turn the steering wheel?

You need to check the operation of your speed sensor and perhaps the intrument panel.
