So I just finished my manual swap. Got the car going and took it for a drive the other day. I was concerned when it was in my garage, because when I would sit in it and make racecar noises the shifter was really stiff. I figured once I got the clutch bled and got some pressure to the throwout bearing that the shifter would free up some... It didn't.

I have a brand new flywheel. Brand new clutch. New master. New slave. New braided lines. New seals and fittings. Everything is new! Except the internals of the trans. Have a manzo (Megan racing) short-shifter, and new factory bushings and shifter brackets.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? It goes into 1st through 4th with quite a bit of effort. But 5th and reverse are nearly impossible. You have to struggle to find them and once you do it take quite a bit of force to push them into gear (more than 1-4).

If you have the stock shifter, try and swap it out to see if makes a difference. I know we talked about it before, but short shifters can be known to cause issues shifting. The shorter throws could be jamming it up. Other than that what fluid did you put in the trans?

Should Not be stiff. either a bad part or something is in a bind, take it apart and have a look.

Read on some honda forums that you need to grease the bushing on a lot of Megan Racing's shifters. I might try that and see where it gets me.

I can definitely "Feel" The gear not quite lining up perfectly in 5th and Reverse. I think that is a short-shifter problem, but even moving side-to-side in Neutral it feels stiff. It doesn't flow smoothly like it should. So I think the problem is in the linkage. Neutral shouldn't be affected by the Short-throw I wouldn't think?

Try moving the shifter bracket around and placing some washers on the ends of the bushings. also make sure there is a sleeve in the bushings (my Megan shifter did not include one, and i dont believe OEM bushings have them either).

I might have to try that. I didn't have much spare time yesterday, but I shot the bushings with some penetrating oil to see if it would get any smoother, and if it did, I was going to take it apart this week and put some grease in there, but it didn't seem to do much. Maybe I tightened the bolt from the linkage through the shifter too tight? Could be pinching the bushings and making it tough to pivot?
I'll take it apart, lube it, add some washers, and not tighten it so much. Will see what happens after that.

If its too tight it can pinch the bushings but i wouldn't think that would make 5th and reverse troublesome. a nylon lock nut may give you peace of mind if your worried about it coming loose as well.

less than $1 even.

2nd, 4th, and reverse where not engaging properly on my car when i first got it. I adjusted the shifter bracket and have had no problems since.

if you still have problems i would check the trans and engine mounts and make sure everything still looks aligned properly.

How do you go about adjusting the shifter bracket? I thought they were mounted in place and not able to move?

Just saying what? That you have no input on the conversation?

i just loosened the all the bolts, then moved it around only tightening 2 bolts until i could feel all my gears fully engaging. not much adjustment in it side to side, but there is a lot front to back.

It was a double entendre, apparently soaring above some heads

Anyone know the the thread pitch of the stock shifter?? And how one could make the shifts alittle less blocky? An I also occasionally have a harsh thud when I shift from second to third and sometimes for fourth to third I also have a shudder and thudding against the tunnel between the seats. It's a manual as well any ideas?
