Hello,

I recently bought an 2008 G37 S coupe for my son to drive. It is a great car and a lot of fun obviously. The one complaint we have is the previous owner put in a "Race clutch" and it is very stiff. He is 17 and this is his first and only stickshift experience. It took him a minute to learn partly because of how stiff it is but he drives it fine now. My wife is skilled at driving a stick but refuses to drive it because the one time she did, her back and hip hurt for 2 weeks afterwards. We can live with it but I"m wondering if anyone has swapped clutch master's to a smaller bore to make the pressure lower and travel longer? If so, how did it work out?

Are clutch MC fairly standard as far as bolt spacing and any reason why I shouldn't play around and find out?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hello,
Unfortunately clutch mounting points and actuation rods aren't very standard, although you might get lucky within a specific brand.
You could try taking a look under the dash/around the pedal and see if there's a return spring you could disengage, or maybe change a linkage around to get more leverage? It might require some cutting and welding.
You might just be better off dropping the transmission and swapping out that clutch/pressure plate. Does the car have any power-adders that would necessitate the stiffer clutch?

No it is stock except for the clutch. Not sure what the PO had in mind for future upgrades but it doesn't even have cold air intake or exhaust changes.
I'll do some research and post if I find a solution.

I haven't made any changes yet. My wife hasn't driven it since the first week and it has been out of sight out of mind.
I'll update whenever I do make a change though.
