the gas pedal on a 1999 qx4 becomes stiff after a brief time of stopping, ie (red lights, stop signs) as a result of this the driver must perform a jack rabbit to get the vechile moving and up to speed. It does not always do this just at random stops and places. Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? (has 65,000 mi, 1999,in very good condition) _ please contact me if anymore info is needed.

Definitely a dirty throttle body If u dont clean it, itll get worse to the point that the pedal wont even want to move, i saw that happen to a chevy truck with only 100k miles or so...

a good cleaning will fix it

Exactly what i was experiencing a little while back. just remove the intake tube and give the throttle body a good cleaning and problem solved

I have this same problem with mine - I lubed the pedal etc. but it's definitely not that--my question is how do you clean the throttle body?

I know how to get the intake tube off, but then what? What tools will I need?

All you need to remove the intake is a few screwdrivers.

Once that's off, open the exposed butterfly valve by hand and you will see all the black goo that makes the throttle stick. Buy a can of Throttle Body / Carb Cleaner and spray all over, opening and closing the throttle body.

Wipe away any excess goop and cleaner, reassemble intake tube, and start up the engine. It's normal if it takes a few more cranks to get it going. It is also normal to have smoke in the exhaust after this cleaning. But, you will have a stick-free throttle!

I removed the black elbow hose that is connected to the intake manifold -- do I need to remove something else to get to that throttle body part? Anyone have pics of this? The Haynes manual is USELESS for this particular proceedure.

Nevermind - I removed the elbow at the end where it connects to the intake manifold and it was a breeze. I used SeaFoam (spray version) to clean the build up out and it worked like a dream. Car drives like it's brand new...accelerates well and no pedal stick!

Wondering how to do the same procedure on a 90 Pathfinder? Never done anything like this before so explanation would be very helpful.

Is it basically the same procedure?

Thanks,Stephen

exact same thing, pull the rubber boot off the throttle body and spray it in while working the throttle. thats pretty much standard for any fuel injected car, the throttle body and rubber boot will look different from model to model but the procedure is still the same.

I'm not sure if it was anybody else's experience but my rubber boot had hardened to the point where when I pulled it off it developed a crack...I mean I had to fight tooth and nail to get it off the intake - it was bonded on there pretty good.

Anyway, I bought a new boot from the Nissan dealer but it wasn't cheap folks! I think $50 out the door but at least now it's like rubber - pliable and comes off easily.

Just a caution
