not that I'm interested in drifting

but, why do people use high performance tires (grippy!) when cheap tires are easier to slip/lose control

exactly cheap tires are less grippy and less predictable. Good tires allow ur car to accelerate while sliding, aswell as being predictable.

alot of it is concistencey and controlability. a cheap tire has a tendancy to change its grip MID SLIDE. that makes it very difficult to link and do long drifts when a tire all of a sudden has less grip or MORE grip halfway through a corner as it heats up. also quality, a lower quality tire will chunk and feather among other things a ****ton quicker and easier than a higher quality tire.

the standard for alot of people is a falken azenis ST115. that tire seems to have the best medium between high performance, price and quality.

doesn't it take more power and more suddent movement to break traction?

where can I get falken azenis ST115 for decent price?

tirerack doesn't sell them and anywhere else I looked is much more expensive than what I went with, yoko es100

yea it takes more, but not on the level you are thinking. its not THAT much worse. once you get it sliding its not that hard to keep them there. the higher quality tire is a sacrifice totally worth it for having to work very little more to get the car to slide. http://www.tires.com sells ST115's for the cheapest you will find without a serious hookup.

would it be ok to run falken azenis in front and less grippy (aka cheaper) tires in the rear?

i run es100s 195/50/15 in the front, that works great. i would run es100s in the back too, it feels so sick when you have good tires in the back too but i cant afford to burn up tires that much money. i did once and that was it. just go artound to tire shops and ask them if they have any used tires you can have.ive got like 16 in my garage.
